anyone know what kind of money he's asking?

He was offered upwards of 8x 8M but he wants short term per Russo.

He is 3 years to UFA.  The Wild obviously want to keep him long term.  It's going to be some tough negotiations.

His agent is the same as Panarin's and he's likely aiming for the same contract at some point.

He looks to be similar to Panarin, coming over at 24 and being a top line player right away.  I can see why he wants a short term deal.  If he hits 90-95 points in a couple years he will want $11 million+...

I actually like Minny as a team. They took Vegas to 7 and have some great pieces. Unfortunately for them retaining those pieces (Fiala, Kaprizov, Kahkonen) will be a massive undertaking. Retaining what they've built will be next to impossible with some of those albatrosses.

They did almost get rid of Parise at the TDL, but the paperwork didn't go through in time. It will be interesting to see if the Isles pursue him in the off season. Especially if they lose to Tampa again.

There was no paperwork to file.  There was no interest this TDL but a year ago it's Guerin that withdrew from the NYI deal.

NYI had traded the 1st round pick that Guerin was looking for and wanted to dump even more cap per Russo.  Brassard got injured so Lamoriello went out to get a C after Koivu refused to waive - he got Pageau with that 1st round pick.

So instead of a 1st Lamoriello was offering a lesser pick and was asking for Guerin to retain more money and/or take on more bad contracts - Ladd was part of the deal to be bought out.  It didn't make sense anymore so Guerin broke off discussions.

NYI need cap space and Parise has really shown his age.  Can't imagine NYI wanting to go after him anymore.

He is still owed 6M this coming season but only 4M over the final 3 years of his contract.  If he spends that season as 13th forward he might prefer to go for a mutual termination next season and see if he can get a league minimum contract elsewhere or even retire.  The Wild would have a recapture penalty of 6.2M x 3 years but it would still be less than a buyout.

His agent will probably want to cash out when he hits UFA and able to look at offers from the entire league.  Smart move.  I think Minnesota have to except the fact he won't sign a 3 year offer.  That's always been the risk of drafting Russians. That said what a pick by Minnesota.

The basis for a deal I've been pushing.

Laffs: Marner(should they retain 1 mill?? don't know?)

Mild: Parise, Rossi, Pitt's 1st rounder 26 OA?

At least the Mild would turn Parise's brutal cap-expense into a viable star fwd.

Hogtown exacts revenge on Twitchy-Mitchee by stashing him in Palookaville.

It's entertainment, ferGawdsakes! Why should fanbases be forced into yrs of patience(for terms to die away) if they're smitten with one team, or another?

A little reminiscent of Star Wars. B)

be funny if he went too the rangers too lol

Yeah; but they probably needs to get there two top 3 picks going first: Kakko and Lafrrenier (before there ELC runs out).  Probably, he is staying in Russia or Seattle/mystery team makes a run at him - perhaps karma just coming back for the Suter & Parise signings; if he gets poach

No team can make a run at him - he's an RFA with no arbitration rights and who can't sign an offer sheet.

The Wild want to build their franchise around him.

They are trying to sign him to an 8 year deal.  He wants shorter term to cash out later.  It does make sense.  It's going to be tough negotiations like with any top RFA.

Quite a few teams had RFA negotiations drag all through the off-season and even into the start of training camp.  Even Vancouver with Horvat and more recently Boeser.  Benning tried to sign him long term but had to settle for shorter term.

They've also made the post-season every year save one for each of the past nine seasons.

They have been scrapping by for so long its really impressive how perennially mediocre they have been. They are the exception to the rule get into the playoffs and anything can happen. They never seemed to get any post season magic.  It's not like they play an easy series either they always put up a fight.
