[Proposal] Draft Pick Swapping with Big Ramifications

Recommended Posts

To VAN:

6th Overall (1st Round)

48th Overall (2nd Round)

To DET:

9th Overall (1st Round)

41st Overall (2nd Round)

2022 4th Round Pick

Just some swapping of picks, but makes a difference...

This trade hinges on discussions with SJ and LA that they are not selecting Wallstedt as he is Detroit's man.

Vancouver moves up 3 spots in the 1st round, but drops 7 spots in the 2nd round while also giving up an additional 4th round pick in 2022.

Detroit moves down 3 spots in the 1st round but still gets their elite goaltending prospect they desperately need, but move up 7 spots in the 2nd round and gain a 5th round pick.

With that being said:

1 Buffalo - Owen Power - No doubt, the potential is there to become a franchise defenceman.

2 Seattle - Matthew Beniers - Way too much talent to pass up a player of this calibre at #2, not to mention the marketing of a star centre for the expansion team

3 Anaheim - Dylan Guenther - His stock has really jumped lately.  True offensive gifts that Anaheim couldn't pass up here.

4 New Jersey - Luke Hughes - The connection to Jack Hughes is a marketing powerhouse in the making, not to mention he is an excellent defenceman.

5 Columbus - William Eklund - Eklund lands into Columbus' lap.  There is no way the CBJ pass up on him here at #5.

6 Vancouver - Brandt Clarke - The whole reason why the Canucks made this deal.  They land their blue chip top pairing RHD!

7 San Jose - Simon Edvinsson - Burns and Karlsson are aging out.  Time to add a potential franchise defenceman to their pool

8 LA - Kent Johnson - So much skill, and possibly better suited for the wing.  LA has lots of centres to work with in their prospect pool with Johnson on the wing.

9 Detroit - Jesper Wallstedt - Detroit gets their guy.

10 Ottawa - Mason McTavish - With a floor of a top tier 3C, and potential for at least 2C, McTavish and Tkachuk will be a pain in the ass to play against for years.

I think you'd have more success with that if it was:

To Vancouver, 6th OA, 48th OA

To Detroit, 9th OA, 41st OA, 2022 2nd or 3rd round pick

I like the idea of moving up, I don't think Detroit sends us any picks tho. I think they'd want at least a 2nd, and likely Lockwood to do it.

Just want to say, if Clarke is our guy, we won't for sure get him at 6.   The worst case for me at least, is doing this, missing out on Clarke and being stuck with Eklund.    Feel we are fine staying where we are and taking either Johnson or McTavish.   But Clarke would be a great add so see where your going with this.   He could go as high as second.

Can’t make the deal unless Clarke falls to six.  But totally agree Clarke is gone well before.

In this case it might work for us.   Given Sieder is already in DET system and killing it doubt they take Clarke which might mean we have a chance for him.  In that case would be understand us moving up for him.

Yup.  It’s a draft floor deal, that has to be prearranged if things fall a certain way.  Detroit might just very well take Wallstadt at six anyway.  Going from six to nine they might miss out on him.

Yes i'm hoping we have two guys taken from the early teen consensus and somebody slips to us.   This year the only guy i see maybe slipping is Eklund that's projected to go awhile before us.   Going to need the scouts to do a pretty awesome job to pull a home run out of their hats this time.

Solid proposal but I’d rather just hang onto our pick.  None of these players are “sure things” or “locks” and so I’m not really a fan of the idea of moving up.

Canucks got a pretty good selection at the #9 spot in Bo Horvat back in 2013 and so I’d rather just take our chances at that spot.

::D I agree keeping our 9th pick is a wise move unless some crazy GM loses his mind and makes us an offer we can't refuse as per Don Corleone!!!  If you look at all the rankings from those so called experts you'll find a wide ranking system that some players are at the high end dropping lower and even out of the top ten! We'll get a quality player at 9 but might be a pick that will be at least a year or two away!
