Van is about 10 years away. They would have to fire G.M. And coaching staff, do a retool by trading core players, get lucky in the draft during years of missing playoffs, lose to underdogs in the playoffs, then when the core players are all married with kids, and the media as well as fan base are giving up and demand a complete rebuild, they hoist the cup. The sad part then is the team that hoists Canucks’ first Stanley Cup will be missing many of the young stars we have right now,

We are maybe 5 years away... the only pieces we really have are Petey, Horvat, Hogz, and potentially Podz and Demko.  Tampa wouldnt even dress any of our D.

Are you saying Luke Schenn would be our #1 D?

You are very optimistic. I am going to the gym and eating healthy. I will stay alive until they get it done. I just don’t know how many of these kids will remain Canucks when they finally win.

I don't know what you just said but the problem is he represents the owners and not the fans.

He has grown the business very well.  Fans hate it. Owners love it. Case closed.

Bettman has not battled the ‘old school power-broking owners’ enough, for the betterment of this league & health of their best assets the players, nor has he cared enough about the integrity of the game & using the available technology (more than has already been permitted) to get the calls definitively right in most situations.

He/the Jeremy Jacobs-camp clearly want more ‘ambiguity’ for old school officials to misinterpret… or to create more drama to exploit.

Bettman has had his day. He is not moving forward in healthier ways. The entry-draft couldn’t be less transparent, with flipping-rule changes, annually. Just seed the draft order by reverse standings, period!  The general public cant help but believe in conspiracy theories with results coming from a computer & then a box or an envelope. Trust us? Ha!

^Yah, that’s not riggable, for sure!

Schmidt and Myers would make the Tampa defense as the 5th and 6th defensemen.  Both of those guys would look so much better with defensively responsible forwards like the ones that Tampa has.

Schmidt and Myers have been made to look way worst then they are because of the lack of backchecking.

I think they’d take Schmidt over Savard.

Hughes is a toss-up, I doubt they would sub him in for either McDonagh or Sergachev.

Exactly.

Past Hedman Tampa’s defense isn’t that impressive on paper.

It’s the system they play as a whole that allows them all to look good.

If you're saying that they're 10 years away, you may as well say that they're 50 years away.

I think we're one season away from becoming a contender.  Our young guys have a penchant for stepping up in big games, so the future looks promising.  Consider that Point is 25, Kucherov 28 and Hedman 30.  It doesn't just happen overnight, sometimes you miss the playoffs, other times you get swept by Columbus Blue Jackets.  It's important to stay the course and not start throwing everybody overboard as soon as you hit some rocky seas.

Our most glaring need are big d-men that can move the puck.  Edler in his prime and Erhoff fit that mold perfectly.  They're not impossible to acquire as we've seen with Montreal getting Edmundsen and Chiarot.

Podkolzin, Rathbone and Lockwood are reinforcements on the way....  not much on the free agent side and that's okay.  Onwards and upwards.
