HKSR
Thought it would be fun to have a thread regarding our prospects, and other prospects that have developed over the years, to see what we thought of them when they were truly just prospects. Simply goto your profile and look up your old activity (See My Activity), and find Forum Posts. Here's one of mine... my thoughts on Virtanen back in 2016/17: "Exactly. I'm actually curious what some of you Virtanen supporters are thinking in terms of where he'll end up in his career? Personally, I'm with Timberwolf... 3rd line player that can hit hard and chip in goals. I see his peak season being about 20 goals, but consistently a 10-15 goal scorer. " Looks to be about right now lol

#Canucks
I was a full supporter of Virtanen 20-25 goals per year. I do not think that was unrealistic and maybe if he gets a chance in the league again, he will put those numbers up. Its frustrating but you always hope for the best in the prospects we draft. I think as a fan base we truly enjoy the development of our prospect but hold them to a high expectation so when $&!# goes wrong or does not pan out the way we thought, we get super discouraged and take it out on that player. We are probably one of the worst fan bases for that! Either way that is why I am so excited about the AHL team in Abbotsford! Lets not kid ourselves. He turned into Naslund! 4

He turned into Naslund! His career was severely impacted by a major car accident which really eff'd him up. While he was never going to be a star player, it *IS* blatantly unfair to judge him considering that. He's actually the type of forward that would've looked great on EP's wing. Had pretty much ZERO offensive skills but he could skate very well AND more importantly, could fight.
HKSR
Here's another one: "Can someone enlighten me on why people are so high on Glass (sounds like a Breaking Bad line or something lol). From what I've seen of him, there's zero creativity in his game. Watching his highlights reminds me of how I felt about Virtanen. Receiving passes from teammates in perfect scoring positions is fine, but I saw next to nothing in terms of him creating plays on his own. Vilardi and Mittlestadt are far superior in that respect. I'd argue that Mittlestadt looks to be the most skilled out of the bunch." I was really keen on Mittlestadt, glad GMJB knew better lol. I didn't and still don't see much in Glass, so wasn't too concerned about him being selected before the Canucks.

#Canucks
Fun Fact: 1992–93 season in Guelph Alek Stojanov played with Todd Bertuzzi! Then with the Hamilton Canucks; Vancouver AHL Affiliate now knows as Syracuse Crunch! Edited June 28, 2021 by #Canucks

I didn't know about his car accident, but based on the stats leading up to the draft, he was a terrible pick for a 1st rounder, especially one that was so high. Edit: Did you mean Shawn Antoski? Edit: Nvm, him AND Stojanov both got into separate car accidents. Yikes. https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/canucks-hockey/the-unusual-stories-of-the-10-worst-canucks-skaters-of-all-time-2216631 Alas, he did not. Antoski was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers early in the 1994-95 season and played another 115 NHL games before a devastating car accident left him with a depressed skull fracture, ending his career. Vancouver absolutely sucked at drafting and developing, despite being gifted draft picks that were ranked so high. They were dazzled by his skating, size & strength. Problem was, as I said already, he had pretty much zero offensive ability. Still, that kind of player generally doesn't get paid much & again, having such a player in our top six to act as "sheriff" wouldn't be such a bad thing. Could've used him in 2011.

After reading the article: https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/canucks-hockey/the-unusual-stories-of-the-10-worst-canucks-skaters-of-all-time-2216631 I do sympathize with Stojanov now. I think his injury at the AHL level wrecked his game. Plus I think he was misused because he said he wanted to be "more than a tough guy". I think it would be more fair to blame Canucks management. And you were right about the car accident - both Stojanov and Antoski were victims of them. Edited June 28, 2021 by Dazzle

Not that he was a first rounder, but the same happened to Prab Rai, who did well enough to earn an ELC (quite a feat in and of itself)...would have made for an awesome story if Prab Rai made it to the show - a local kid, visible minority, hard working immigrant family - the Canadian dream story. Canucks fans, me included, would have built a shrine for the kid if he had as much success in the NHL as he did in his final couple seasons in the WHL.

Not a car accident but another former Canuck 1st round pick suffered a freak accident during a game while he was with the Pats (after he was drafted by the Canucks). His wrist was cut by a skate that caused major damage & pretty much destroyed any chance of a solid NHL career (even before he would turn professional). Curse of the Canucks.

He was a long shot being a 6th 5th rounder, but still, there was nothing else to suggest he couldn't make it. Uhh... I just looked this up now... Defendants Prabhraj Singh Rai aka Prab Rai and Anastacia Kanellos aka Anastacia Rai and Harbhajan Singh Rai aka Bubby Rai and Gurjit Kaur Rai and Jasraaj Rai aka Raju Rai and Joseph & Chanan Clothing Inc. and Lionsgate Enterprises Ltd. and 1100020 B.C.
