For now better to pass on these players cause no guarantees they will perform here - Schmidt; and unless the Canucks gets them reeeeal cheap. Imo, just like Schmidt both of these players seems to be a product of the there teams system & (to a lesser degree) roster. Schmidt's regression with the team vs his time in Vegas should provide some caution - good thing JB got him cheap. With respect to Juolevi, I'd have no issue in trading him if it meant acquiring Gavrikov. Our defence is too easy to play against, and Gavrikov fills a need for us. If we're trying to do all of: add more snarl to our defence, add players who perfectly align with the age of our core group, and become more competitive, then Gavrikov is a perfect fit for us. And as you mentioned, being a Russian for Podkolzin to have around is just an added bonus. And of course, this is a guy that Shaw is familiar with - and is probably one of the big reasons why Gavrikov has evolved into the type of player he has. I see a genuine fit here.
