[Proposal] Fixing the Defense (Proposals)

Recommended Posts

Ok..........just having fun here, so don't take it seriously

Trade #1.

OEL (2 million per retained) and Columbus's 2021-2nd

for

Myers, Eriksson, Roussel,

Why does Arizona do this? To get out from under OEL's massive contract. Why pay us the 2nd? Because of OEL's massive contract. Why do we do it? Because we are clearing cap for the next moves.

Trade #2.

Jones and Tampa's 2021-1st

for

Hughes

Hughes is a Offensive specialist, but over all costs us more goals than he creates. Jones on the last year of his current contract will be looking for a raise. We can afford it.

Trade #3

Graves

for

Vancouver's 2021-3rd and Jasek

UFA signing

Hamilton at 7 years X 7.5 Million

UFA signing

Hamonic at 3 years X 2.5 Million

Yes, this is a massive payroll on defense, but a good one, and we will be able to manage it. We are bigger, we are much better.

OEL..............Jones

Graves..........Hamilton

Rathbone......Hamonic

Joulevi..........Woo

Love your proposals.

Canucks Defense is exactly the area which needs to be improved.

Just to give you a feel for what the asking price for a player like Seth Jones is:

Potential trade packages for four of the ‘leading candidate’ for Jones.

Chicago Blackhawks –  Philipp Kurashev, Nicolas Beaudin, Lukas Reichel, and a 2022 first-round pick.

Colorado Avalanche – Tyson Jost, Sampo Ranta, Justin Barron and a 2021 first-round pick.

Los Angeles Kings –    Adrian Kempe, Akil Thomas, Tobias Bjornfot and a lottery protected 2022 first-round pick.

Philadelphia Flyers –   Philippe Myers, Zayde Wisdom, Morgan Frost and a 2021 first-round pick.

The base is a 1st round pick accompanied with three prospects / young players.

In case of the L.A Kings they would have to throw in 2 young players who were drafted in the first round with Kempe and Bjornfot and a lottery protected 2022 first round pick.

That's a steep price.

What would it take to get Stecher out of DET?  :P

but seriously, the team lacks snarl on the back end. Hamonic was the exception last season. Edler lays out the odd big hit, but he also takes bad penalties. He also shies away from physicality, which sends a bad message to the younger players. Edler won't have their backs. Same with Myers. Big bodied guy who plays small IMO. Still, I like Myers.

Benning needs to re-sign Hamonic and bring in another 1-2 large Dmen who can skate and actually play defense. They don't have to be stars, just players who can play solid D.  Let Edler sign in SEA as a UFA, it's close to home for him.

Jan, I am not too sure Arizona would agree with your proposal but I would be all for it. The problem is Arizona would effectively be paying the same for Myers as they pay for OEL over the next 3 years given the proposed $2M retention. Additionally, they would take on a net $9M in cap for the 1st year. I realize the actual dollars paid out would be more favorable to Arizona but cap wise this really would not help them until 2024 when Myers' contract expires. That's a pretty big ask and I suspect would not be well received by their 200 fans.

Jones has basically told everyone he is going to go UFA hasn't he? I think there are higher priorities right now requiring attention rather than trying to find a creative way to get Jones to sign here. I would pass on this one and wait to see his demands at free agency in a year's time.

The Graves trade I would like but I think Colorado would get much better offers for him.

Agree with going after Hamonic but again I would pass on Hamilton. Hamilton has already played for 3 NHL teams that have seen fit to move him for one reason or another and that worries me.

this one is interesting. I think they'd want Juolevi in that deal tho. I like the idea of Hamilton with Hughes.

Honestly Wolf

Would you take any of these packages for Hughes.......I don't think I would, which is my point

Let's take Phili's

Myers plays both LW and LHD because he is not good enough to play LHD full time

Frost, is having a hard time cracking their line-up

Their 1st is a midish 1st

These are all quantity offers............Hughes is the only quality offer, IMO, of this bunch

Yeah rather have quinn over both hamilton and seth.

You are now certifiably nuts!  But not alot nuts..............Quinn does have blue chip value for sure, which is why Jones and the 32nd OA pick, is a trade Columbus makes

Isn’t Myers (Philly) a right shot guy?  Are you thinking Samheim?  He’s left shot and plays some wing.
