Forsberg - Petterson - Boeser

Schwartz - Miller - Hoglander

Pearson - Horvat - Podkolzin

Motte - Highmore - Lockwood

MacDaddy

OEL - Larson

Hughes - Fabbro

Rathbone - Hamonic

Edler

Demko

Dipietro

So here’s what’s up.

Canucks leverage AZ.  Coyotes take Myers, Beagle, Eriksson and retain just over 2M on OEL, bringing him to 6M on the cap.   (AZ buys out Beagle and Eriksson, and save themselves around 30M actual dollars while keeping a similar but lesser defender.). Vancouver generates just over 9M additional cap space.

Seattle takes Lind

Canucks buy out Virtanen + Holtby, save 4M.

Canucks then move picks 9, 41, and Nate Schmidt to Nashville for Filip Forsberg and Dante Fabbro.  This will eat about 5M of cap after Fabbro extension.

Canucks re-sign Travis Hamonic. 2 years slight raise.

Canucks sign Adam Larsson. 5 years 4.3M.

Canucks sign Jaden Schwartz. 4 years 4.2M.

Canucks re-sign Edler.  1 last hurrah.

Petterson gets a bridge.

Hughes gets term at a more reasonable cap than most expect.

And badda bing, your 2021/2022 Vancouverrr Canucks!!!

That lineup is softer than a baby's bottom.  The defence especially.  Benning said he wants to get bigger on the backend not smaller...

Yah.  Look at all the brutes TB rolls out

also Larsson is 6’3” 210 and hits like a brick wall.  Fabbro is 6’0” 190.  Hardly a midget.  Still 23, natural RHD.

Nashville wants to keep Forsberg long term.  Forsberg has already said he wants to stay in Nashville btw.  His personal situation is probably an added incentive.   Would also make for an unbalanced cap spending to add a 6M D when their priority is to extend Ekholm.

If Fabbro is not ready to play with such a reliable and steady D-as Ekholm, he probably isn't ready to be Hughes' steady D-partner.

How do you reach savings of 30M - at 1st glance looks lower than that.

Johnson talks of playing DiPietro upwards of 50 games in the AHL next season.  Says DiPietro hates being idle and now you want to park him as the backup goalie.

Foote 6'3" 209

Schenn 6'2" 227

McDonagh 6'1" 214

Yeah that lineup is tiny...

Being soft has nothing to do with a players natural size.

Not what I want + not sure if Benning does the following:

To Tampa:  Michael Ferland

To Vancouver:  Tyler Johnson

To Arizona:  Eriksson + Virtanen + 9OA

To Vancouver:  OEL

To ???:  Nate Schmidt

To Vancouver:  3rd round pick

Canucks sign Adam Larsson.

Miller-Pettersson-Boeser

Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander

Roussel-Johnson-Podkolzin

Motte-Beagle-Highmore

OEL-Larsson

Hughes-Hamonic

Rathbone-Myers

Demko

Holtby

What I’ve been tempted to do lately even though it’s not realistic:

To Calgary:  Miller+Schmidt+9OA

To Vancouver:  Tkachuk+Andersson+11OA

To San Jose:  Eriksson + 11OA

To Vancouver:  Evander Kane

To Tampa Bay:  Michael Ferland

To Vancouver:  Tyler Johnson

Sign Adam Larsson (or David Savard)

Buyout Virtanen

Tkachuk-Pettersson-Boeser

E.Kane-Horvat-Hoglander

Roussel-Johnson-Podkolzin

Motte-Beagle-Highmore

Hughes-Larsson (or David Savard)

Rathbone-Andersson

Juolevi-Myers

Demko

Holtby

I'd rather sign Oleksiak + Hamilton to be our top pairing rather than OEL + Larsson at the same cost. And keep the 9OA pick for ourselves.

Plus I'd rather get a 1st round pick with Johnson, instead of trading Ferland who is on LTIR

My guess:

Pettersson - Miller - Boeser

Pearson - Horvat - Hoglander

Motte - ?? - Podkolzin

Roussel - Beagle - MacEwen

Highmore

Hughes - ??

Schmidt - Myers

Edler - Rathbone

Juolevi

Demko

??

So, basically the same

What does Arizona use for buyouts?  I thought they didn't have money?

I honestly don't know if this would work from a long term cap perspective (my off the top of my head guess is that we'd have to save money for future extensions to Tkachuk, Horvat, Pettersson, Boeser, and Horvat, using the freed up money from Roussel, Beagle, Holtby, Lou cap recapture, etc.), but having Tkachuk, E.Kane, Larsson/Savard, Andersson, and Podkolzin would definitely help us in the 'beef up' department.  We'd go from being one of the smallest wimpiest teams in the NHL to a very physically imposing one.

I'll admit that I wasn't on the David Savard train up until recently (@HSKR kind of showed me the light so to speak), but he'd be a great add just incase we were unable to add Adam Larsson.   Benning always talks about winning culture and bringing in vets that have been a part of winning cultures.  David Savard would definitely fit that bill, and he'd already have familiarity with Tyler Johnson (who I believe still has game).

That above Canucks line-up looks like it would be built for playoff hockey.  Only thing missing would be another high end two way quality dman  (like a Hampus Lindholm type).
