FlyLow_
I don't want Leddy, but this and the Graves deal are the type of deal I'm hoping the Canucks will do to add a solid D-man that can actually play defense.

Kenny Blankenship
This seems like an odd deal for Detroit. What good does Leddy do them at this stage of their rebuild? Curious what all the people who dump on JB have to say about this one.

He's an asset with a year left on his deal, one they can easily retain cap on and flip at the deadline for a high pick or two
Whaleroad Train
If Leddy is to become one of the Red Wings protected defencemen, doesn't that mean that Stecher is left unprotected for Seattle to pick in the expansion draft?

Definitely would provide some toughness on the back end.

Just seems kinda strange to me They got a 1st, Vrana and Panik for Mantha. They trade Panik (50% retained) and a 2nd for Leddy. Than they trade Leddy at the deadline for a 2nd and a prospect to a team like Toronto, Florida, Carolina, Edmonton or even his hometown team in Minnesota. If the Red Wings want to improve, they need to shelter their young players and develop into a powerhouse. For that, they'll need high-picks and shrewd GM. OTT and DET both have made several moves/signings the last 18 months that follow the same sort of thing JB did. Wait until they both try and win a cup during their "elc" window. Won't happen.
canucklehead44
This is a good move by both teams. NYI gets a high 2nd and bottom 6 veteran at a good price while clearing cap. Detroit gets a top 3 defenseman for the season and the opportunity to potentially get more back at the deadline (a 2nd and a prospect - similar to what we gave up for Toffoli).
