Two conference finals in a row is not a fluke at this point. MIN just started their rebuild with their buyouts. Going to be a long long long time before they are relevant again. PHI is in a perpetual meritocracy cycle, looks like they still will keep that cycle going. We are not in a win now situation and the bubble success didn't fool JB. He knows we are still a few years out which of course we are. Why waste the youth and futures we have and need just to "go for it!" this year... it's the same reason why I didn't want any of Markstrom, Tanev or TT back. Hogs is a way better price point per performance then TT and he knocked it out of the park last year. Tanev is always injured over an 82 season - and going to decline for sure. Markstrom .. folks went crazy at the start of the year ...but sure came around quickly once Demko sorted his stuff out didn't they? Patience. We make the playoffs great - we don't great too. The following season then i will start worrying if JB just blows his wad. Feel he's learned his lesson and don't expect that. If he does then well time for a new GM. 1 1

Thus the "we ran out of time" comment. Even if we moved the cap and kept Toffoli, the whiners would have whined. The whining point would merely have switched to why did Benning give up these assets. If he didn't sign any UFAs then he wouldn't have had to lose those assets for nothing. And the snivelling and whining would have continued by the same whiners. Time has proven this switch in whining points will occur no matter what. 7 1

If we could have signed Toffoli, then we could have moved Jake afterwards or even waived him. He was still coming off of a decent year. Someone would have taken a chance on him.

Are we really far off from being competitive tho if we had that 6 mill to get a better dman or 2? Doesnt even have to be this years pics even. We have one of the better top 6 in the league an elite goalie and defensman that needs a few complimentary pieces.

Having 6 mill sitting on the sideline isnt making this team competitive Giving up assets for one year is ridiculous for a club that missed the playoffs last year. You can't fix everything in one year but you can waist assets and screw our future.
