It has everything to do with our club. We need money to make ourselves better. Having 6 mill sitting on the sideline isnt making this team competitive

Why did philly do it?

Who cares?

We are not philly. Jim's biggest mistakes have come from trying to rush things. He needed to make the team better for the twins even though this club needed a full rebuild. They signed LE to a long term deal when they should have found someone who lined up term wise with the twins. We are still paying for that. Then he brought in some vets for the kids but hand cuffed himself with too much term on those deals. We are just about through those mistakes but now the owners have put pressure on him to make the playoffs this year.

There is no way he will get enough cap space to do anything of note. All that will happen is we will end up taking on another blunder.

You know who was Jim's best ufa signing? I mean , since he got here. Hamonic! There will be ufa's looking for a place to play as we get closer to the season start. Look for deals to get us through until next year. Offer Sutter a mil for one year. Lets not forget the addition of Podkolzin. Grab a couple of big low cost D men.

They need to stop trying to force things.

Means a lot actually.

If you look and understand our team you would see that the time to win is now and not to wait for picks to develop in 2 or 3 years. Bo and miller aint getting any younger and petey is entering his 4th year. This is a team that needs to improve now and not in 2-3 years. Losing loui schmidt and maybe holtby opens up enough room to add a top 6 forward a top 4 dman a backup goalie and more.

Don't forget the, "it's not an easy climate to make trades...." or " trades are hard".

Considering the lack of side deals with Seattle, and how few trades were made by teams trying to get something for assets they were going to lose in the ED, I would say that Benning's observation that "trades are hard" is very accurate in this climate.

We also need young guys coming into the lineup on their ELCs and contributing, so we can afford to pay our big boppers.  Far more likely 9OA is that kind of player sooner than later picks.

Doesnt have to be this years picks. Say we draft a johnson who could eventually take over millers spot where we could easily re coup draft picks.

We need to fil some holes on our defense now. If you move out Schmidt you will need to replace him. Cap space out cap space back in.  Next year Beagle , Rousell , LE and the Loui penalty is all gone.

This team will improve this year with minimal done. A full year of Petey. The addition of Podkolzin. A full season of Rathbone. Great goal tending. Through a few low cost ufa's and we will be just fine. Each year you add a piece or two. Next year they could have who ever they draft this year push for a spot and more cap space to fill another hole or two.

No one is suggesting that we are going backwards.

Because (arguably) the Flyers are further ahead (by a year or so) than the Canucks?

Agree with your post. I will say Vanek, Virbata and Miller were also very good bangs for their buck in free agency.

totally on board with not forcing anything this off season and just circle back to the bargain bin much like he did with Hamonic last year.
