I mean it would be pretty whack to fly him in in front of your fans. Put on the jersey and trade him wouldn’t it? They only have 9 million left and need to re sign Hart, Sanheim and a back up goalie. They also can.t replace TK's offence and got rid of Patrick and Meyers. Can't get rid of three young players for average aging vets with high cap hits. Edited July 22, 2021 by Fen1010
24K PureCool
Think Schmidt is just not a fit personality wise in our room. I mean Bo, Quinn, JT, Petey, brock are business all the time and non are clowns (as in joking around) like Schmidt. I bet he would love this team if Kesler and Bieska was still in the room. He would fit right in with them.

Popular Post VegasCanuck
Schmidt is a solid top 4 D, and he has proven that over the course of his career. He has one off season, due largely to joining a new team and getting zero time to acclimatize and integrate himself into the new systems and defense partners and suddenly, fans assume that he's an untalented idiot. Only in Vancouver, does this happen! 2 4 10

Larsson for example would have been a better fit then Schmidt and he’s cheaper too. I’d trade Schmidt for a 3rd round pick, because we’d sign a player to replace him in addition to the 3rd round pick. With Hughes and you rathbone we need more defensive d-men. Only in Vancouver, does this happen! Imo if the rumours are true it’s because he is probably our best asset we are willing to move. I would be more then happy to have Schmidt back. When he’s playing his game he’s worth the price of his contract. 100% agree with your statement. Personally I would rather see us add to our defence with Schmidt but that would be through free agency as I would like to keep the 9th overall. Popular Post oldnews
LeBrun's take isn't convincing in the least. What are the team's primary needs? Wadr, 'top 9' forwards is a pretty dumbass take on what they need. They haven't re-signed Edler - and they haven't re-signed Hamonic. They have no problem filling out their top 6, and with the debatable exception of 3C - (for which they already have one candidate) - there aren't really any other pressing needs in their bottom six. What do they actually need? A partner for Hughes - a RHD. Their principal need - by a fair margin. They have three young LHD - Hughes, Juolevi and Rathbone - they almost certainly want to add a more veteran left hand defenseman to that mix - or move Schmidt to the left side - and dealing Schmidt in order to get 'top 9 forwards' solves neither - in fact it takes one of their versatile veteran defensemen out of the mix - so if they're moving Schmidt, it creates the need to add at least a pair of defensemen, and that doesn't include the fact they'd need another RHD to fill out their 3rd pairing. LeBrun's sounds like the take of someone that didn't do his homework and walked into the studio with some Cole's notes written by another lazy, distant Leafs clingon that has little idea of what Vancouver's roster needs actually are. I mean seriously - take Schmidt out of that mix for 'two top 9 forwards'? What tf does that look like? Hughes ? ? Myers Juolevi/Rathbone ? EP Miller Boeser Pearson Horvat Hoglander Roussel ?Dickinson? Podkolzin Motte Beagle Highmore/MacEwen *two more "top 9 forwards" (Virtanen) So - they'd be assuming Podkolzin can't/doesn't make the team, and writing Roussel (or Pearson) out of the mix....? while presuming that none of Lockwood, Gadjovich, etc could earn a bottom six spot. Quite a stretch imo. While being utterly oblivious to the work to be done on the blueline. Thanks for the 'take', Pierre. kloubek
If we do trade Schmidt, I would expect Benning to fill that spot with a big shutdown guy to pair with Hughes. With Larsson and Oleksiak out of the equation from the FA pool, there are still a few guys available by UFA who could work but it's already becoming slim pickings... Savard's seems like a logical camp Benning will be calling...
