[Rumor] Nate Schmidt being dealt very soon any minute now

Recommended Posts

Schmidt will do well next year!  He had a hard time transitioning to the country style defensive system we had!   Now that a new defence coach is here, I’m sure things will make sense for him.

letting him go makes as much sense as letting tofu go.

Schmidt in a deal for tarasenko and bortuzzo? We add Roussel or maybe Pearson (unlikely I know)

Then sign Schwartz 4yr 16m and have this for a lineup

Scwartz Horvat Tarasenko

Petey Miller Boeser

Pearson Dickinson Hoglander

Motte Beagle Podkolzin

Hughes Hamonic

Rathbone Bortuzzo

OJ Schenn/Bowey/Hanakappa??

what about Myers

I’d do Zadorov for Schmidt..  gives us space and makes us better physically on D.

I’d actually do that too.  Fits a very specific need and then we use FA to fill the other RD gap.

Bingo. Schmidt didn’t just have a bad season. Practically everyone not named Boeser, Hoglander and Demko (and even he had a rough start). Should we be trading the other guys too. The stuff we went through last year is only going to make the team stronger.

Ive seen stuff like “gifted” a playoff spot the season before. Fluked out. Goaltending the only reason. Eff off. Team has been on the up for awhile now but now because we had a crap shortened season with multiple factors effecting the group our players suck? C’mon. We let Toffoli go but he had nothing to do with the progression of this team. A nice piece but he had a cup of coffee and he was gone.

We need a few pieces here but let’s not forget this isn’t the team that struggled in last years shortened team. No way!

Can't disagree enough with the Tofolli comment.  He was huge in a number of games which turned into key wins.  He was a difference-maker in the overall team stats that led to the playoffs.  He wasn't the top guy but he was the right guy for a number of key moments and those are the guys you want on the team.  The team is improving but we lost a difference-maker and he needs to be replaced adequately.

I think we go cheap with a patch job this upcoming season. Next offseason jim could get a couple real good ones, very deep next year. Another cross your fingers scenario

This is what we are going to have to do, with our cap space even if we trade Schmidt we can’t fill all the holes until next year.

Do we have a freaking plan? Can't wait for UFA, going to sign more players we'll regret in a sec. The standard 6x6 Benning contract is ready

I’m ok with trading Schmidt the Canucks will then pick up other D-men and I wouldn’t say Edler and Hamonic are for sure leaving. But Schmidt isn’t a fit with our team when we have Rathbone and Hughes. Either our D or our forwards will have to wait to be fixed next year. A patch job will have to do. If we solve our forwards for the most part and then solve the D next off season when we have more cap space that’s a win IMO.

id like to see our forwards look like this

trade/UFA petterson Boeser

trade/UFA Horvat Hoglander

Pearson Miller Podz

Dickenson Beagle Motte

3 lines that can score and a good checking line.

Dickeson would play center in case of injury, and we could trust that line for key defensive draws.

defense would have to be filled with cheaper patch jobs(which could work out) and could be upgraded next off season.

2 Top 9 forwards...that's the goal? Not a top 4 defenseman, not a top 6 forward...2 top 9 forwards. Yeah. There is a problem with this management team.

Or you know, this is just a rumor and not actually 100% true of what the team is doing? It's funny how the people that have a problem with management are the ones that always just jump to conclusions immediately when they hear something. Also, top 9 forwards would include top 6 forwards in there.

We need two top 9 forwards (2nd line winger plus third line center) and two top 4 D.

Thats why Benning needs to be very aggressive in the coming week.

We’ll need about 16 million to get that done:

Holtby (trade with retention?)
Roussel (buyout?)

Beagle (trade)

Virtanen (buyout)

Schmidt (trade)

Thats roughly 16 mil right there. It gets even easier if he convinces  someone to take Eriksson.
