We've currently got the following drafted and developed guys: Boeser, Bo, Hoglander, Petey, Rathbone, Juolevi, Hughes, Demko, Podkolzin all likely on the roster next season. Dipetro and Woo maybe the year after. Maybe Klimovoch in 2-3 years. Tampa interestingly had 11 guys on their main roster (12 if you count Foote) they drafted and developed. Even more interesting is on defence, only two drafted. One happens to be the best dman in the league but the other 5/6 are trades and UFAs. So if our drafted guys aren't as good as Tampa's, we'll have to fill in our gaps with good trades and UFAs like Miller, and we'll see about OEL soon. That is a lot, but will it be a crazy amount in 3-5 years? Or the standard for a Top 4 Dman? I think the move to VAN will rejuvenate OEL, a fresh start, probably feels like a young guy again with his excitement. If OEL wins a Cup in VAN, is the trade worth it? I'm trying not to focus on the money with this deal, but more of what can the Canucks accomplish over the next 5 years. Maybe this was an ownership decision. Bring him in, and if needed, they can buy out the last year of his contract or something like that. Benning said he would be aggressive, and he has been. Unfortunately there are a lot of steps need to be made before this is realistic. Whether JB has the wherewithal to make those moves seems highly dubious.
