Weird, you didn’t bump this last year when OEL was playing great. Wonder why?

He wasn't playing great. Just better than the previous couple of seasons. He was fine. Nothing more. Nowhere near the 7.26m price tag.

Ability to think critically amongst this fanbase barely exists here anymore ::D

Are you just going back and cherry picking people's comments, and then acting like they were dumb because they couldn't predict the future? And your using current knowledge to judge them?

At least if they were your own comments and you were like "see I warned everyone".

I still think this trade is good. Call me stupid. I don't care. What is wrong with Garland? What is wrong with OEL playing 22 minutes a game with scrubs that should be depth or even AHLers?

It's the aspect that Guenther is more valuable than Garland, and despite playing heavy minutes, OEL isn't worth his contract.

We could have used the cap space more efficiently, and not lost out on a quality prospect.

I wonder how many people are really connecting these dots.

I mean, it couldn’t be giving away our three best shot suppressing D in Edler, Tanev, and Stecher at the same time who are all still playing that role in the league (unlike the players mentioned).

how about it was all of them?

we have this obsession with what players make in this market and it overshadows the skills they brought.

For the most part we’ve been a cap team who’s had inconsistent and not so great results.

It’s gonna shine a light on those types of things.

We did lose a lot of our good PKers in one off-season.

No he was, just also had to play more defensively so he didn’t put up numbers but he was either solid to great last season.

 It was shortsighted trade/move.

I don’t  think he’s as bad as he’s been this season. playing with Myers makes everyone worse.

7mill for a older defensive dman when tanev would have done the same or better.
OEL was suppose to be a offensive dman he hasn’t  improve our offence from the back end which was   the main reason he was acquired.

cap handcuffing contract for a player who value is falling off a cliff. (Cue hindsight excuse. )

I know Garland is still at a good age and could stay here but would we entertain a deal with Pit possibly?

Blueger- Injured at the moment and a pending UFA maybe we can retain him and he be a #3C for us?

Kapanen- fast forward who can play PK has an extra year at 3.2m- Could Pit retain a bit or take another Canuck to even salaries out in a deal?

Draft pick- ideally no lower than a 2nd

for

Garland

Joshua/Stillman/Rathbone/Burroughs(if we won't play him!) some canuck with a low cap hit to even out or come out slightly ahead cap wise

OEL is good and probably worth 4-5M in this day and age.

If we waited one more year, we would have access to $12M cap space and 2 more picks.  One of the worst trades in JB's tenure and he has many.

Acquiring OEL directly impedes our ability to re-sign Boeser, Horvat and JT Miller.

Unbelievable that some of you guys still think this was a good trade.  We just had to wait ONE more year.

See comments above I made in February.

The trade was terrible from the jump, but the JB loyalists couldn't stop raving about this deal.  Really goes to show that most fans are really not that bright.

Sure 7mil is a steep price. But I am a big proponent of our scrub defenders not having to play a ton of defense. Y'all can love Hughes all you want I love him too, he's not good defensively. OEL takes those grueling shifts against the top opposing scorers. And he has to do it with trashcans and AHL jobbers. Give me a break before you come at me with the he sucks storyline.

The only thing I'll say is, the trade aged poorly cause management can't build a good team for the life of them. That's the only angle I'll concede. I honestly think if we nabbed Marino to play with OEL, he'd be looking really good right now. Marino is filling more or less the same niche as OEL. They 100% would have been a really great two way pair. But instead we're out here actively hoping to see more Burroughs. That's how bad our blueline has been. We actually want Burroughs over some of the other pylons.

This is next level denial/delusion.

OEL is a #4 on a good team.  He should be making $4M or less at this point in his career, not $7M+.

He's only going to get worse from here... he might be the new Loui Eriksson for the next 4 years.

I actually did.

I said this trade sucked in February, while OEL was having his "Great" season.

He wasn't "great" btw.  He was probably playing at a $5M level which is still overpaid for his deal.

This year he's been lost - probably playing at a replacement level defenseman ($2-3M).
