Makes it more of a fair trade but man I would of loved a solid dub. I can’t complain too much, I have spent two offseasons saying we needed to bite the bullet to make cap space with a move like this… The added picks just move it more of a question mark that depend on how he spends his newfound wealth of cap space. If he can swing a long term deal with one or both of our stars right now because of it, that could offset some of the later OEL money as the cap starts rising and inflation making the max deal cheaper. Johnny Torts
Does this make us an instant contender? Or does that depend on the Holtby and Schmidt situation, and depth FA signings? Discuss!

I went from not liking it, to grudgingly accepting it, right on back to not liking it. I’m still on the fence but having Squamfan hate it makes me think it might be a good trade. In any case I can’t stop hitting the refresh on Capfriendly waiting to see Loui’s name disappear. That alone makes this a good day. 7

Maniwaki Canuck
My freakin god. Well that's some significant cap moved, an expensive Edler replacement and a top 6 forward. Not happy about taking OEL on even at 7 mil per, but we're going to be better this coming year.
GB5
Why won't other teams just take our old bad overpaid players and give us their good cheap young ones in return? That's what we want right? Maybe in bizarre world.

Jim agrees on a deal that he thinks can improve our team, presents it to the owner, the owner approves. It’s a horrible deal which would have not happened if we had a new gm

Yes the contract is a bit long and a bit high but the retention is huge. This makes us WAY better for the next 2-3 years. After that, maybe not depending who is available at 9. Garland is going to be a slightly worse Miller. We have a good looking versatile top 9 now where players can shift up and down and have a couple decent two way lines and a strong 4th line with Motte there. Miller Petey Boeser Hoglander Horvat Garland Pearson Dickinson Pod Motte Hawrylyk MacEwen Curious what we do on our back end, I hope we keep Schmidt as I don't want to sell low and think this would be a pretty good 7. OEL - Schmidt Hughes - Hamonic Rathbone - Myers Juolevi Say what you want about the trade, but that's the best looking roster we've had in ages. 9 1 3 2
Plaguez
I do not like this trade at all. We would have been in cap heaven after this year is done, now we have the new LE on for another 6 bloody years. If OEL continues his downward trend we absolutely got destroyed in this trade. JB is going to have to get something great for Schmidt/Holtby in order to make this less garbage. 1

Considering they've played 4-5 less seasons than them, i don't think you can really compare them to mcdavid and eichel's teams. I agree with u that they have won more playoff rounds in just saying. Oel and myers are currently and going to continue to decline in play unless hughes and petey are locked up long term they’re probably going to want out considering this team is most likely going to be “retooling” for another 5-6 years
