An occasion move backwards but progressing well, in the right direction. But you just hold onto his second year if that keeps you warm at night. Or, counter point, yep. He has the like 3rd worst record over 7 years of any active GM. Something along those lines. Unless the moves he makes this off season turn the team around and get us into the playoffs, he's out of a job and probably not top of anyone's list. But keep holding onto that hopium.

That's making an assumption. Let's see how he does when he's out of a suffocating atmosphere of a team that is going no where and into a team that's loaded with young talent that he can pass to. We picked up a lot of dollars on the OEL contract, but we flushed out about 12 million going the other way, of essentially dead contracts, and we can still clear another 6.8 million by moving out Jake and Holtby. This clears our plate to start building a really competitive roster for next season.

hammertime
I'm really surprised the Aqua men signed on to this. OEL's actual salary for the next 3 years is 9.24M after the 12%. 1 1

AV.
Purported draft specialist has now traded more picks than Mike "barren cupboards" Gillis and has (to this point) infinitely less success to show for it. Makes you wonder... 1

Popular Post Azzy
LOVE this trade. We move three sub-par players and $12m in cap hit, acquire a #3 D-man signed long-term, as well as a scoring top six winger, and all it cost was the 9th overall and a 2nd rounder. Compared to the recent Ladd, Gostisbehere and Ristolainen trades, this is a slam-dunk of a win for Benning. I cannot WAIT to see Garland playing with EP. 4 1 2

Atleast it gives us a team. And Holtby likely to be moved. Maybe Schmidt too. Cmon guy let’s loosen up and celebrate the Eriksson free Canucks! 5 1

After that, we are the ones with the ongoing cap hit and they are only responsible for the salary retention. So put in that light, it's not quite as rosy. Then you consider all the picks being sent, and it's not at all as rosy as your statement. I'm not sure if I'm super keen on this or not. But I will say that it does make our team a lot more competitive right away, which was clearly the intention.

We got rid of 12 million that’s expiring at the end of next year. So straight up salary exchanges we were behind big time. Obviously we get a good player in Garland but is he worth all those picks plus us taking on a terrible contract? I think it’s a bad trade. Just my opinion. OEL at 7M cap space is not a terrible contract. LE, Rousell and Beagle were terrible contracts. OEL was a Captain, still productive and is reasonably aged. We needed a quality defenceman and finally got one. The picks were a fair sacrifice to get him, Garland, dump the terrible contracts and have some salary retained. We dumped a 1st for Miller and it worked out. We are getting a lot more here. 1
