Nope.

Team is better than it was, and that is all he does, make it better bit by bit.

An occasion move backwards but progressing well, in the right direction.

But you just hold onto his second year if that keeps you warm at night.

Or, counter point, yep. He has the like 3rd worst record over 7 years of any active GM. Something along those lines. Unless the moves he makes this off season turn the team around and get us into the playoffs, he's out of a job and probably not top of anyone's list.

But keep holding onto that hopium.

This is going to be a fun read when everyone realizes how much of an anchor OEL's contract is in 2024.

That's making an assumption. Let's see how he does when he's out of a suffocating atmosphere of a team that is going no where and into a team that's loaded with young talent that he can pass to.

We picked up a lot of dollars on the OEL contract, but we flushed out about 12 million going the other way, of essentially dead contracts, and we can still clear another 6.8 million by moving out Jake and Holtby.

This clears our plate to start building a really competitive roster for next season.

So just a thought...

LE - $6M

Beagle - $3M

Roussel - $3M

TOTAL - $12M out

OEL - $7M

Garland - At least $4M to re-sign

TOTAL - $11M in

So... we basically converted those 3 useless players into 2 useful ones for the same cap hit.

Yes. For the first year. After that, we are the ones with the ongoing cap hit and they are only responsible for the salary retention. So put in that light, it's not quite as rosy. Then you consider all the picks being sent, and it's not at all as rosy as your statement.

I'm not sure if I'm super keen on this or not. But I will say that it does make our team a lot more competitive right away, which was clearly the intention.
