Yeah man. His 39 points in 49 games put him as the 17th highest scoring RW last season and his 78 points in 118 games make him 22nd over the last 2 seasons. Easily top line production, assuming the top 31 RWs are first liners. 7

springer
Love this move! Gave up a pick that probably wouldn't play for 1 to 3 years in a year not considered that rich with draft talent. Consider the team OEL has been playing for...compared to the team he's now joining. Not to mention leadership qualities worthy of the C on his jersey. We get a player that can fill that gap in the defense...for only slightly more than we were paying Edler for the last 7 or 8 years. He dumped 12 mil in cap space that was producing literally NOTHING!!! Zilch! Nada!!! We a get young player that can fit right in on the top six...and make them better. Thought - Edler circles back after testing the waters and signs for a couple years in the $2 mil range? Frankly, I didn't think Benning had this kind of gonads! Gutsy as it gets! It's a good day! And I don't think he's done yet! 3

Bothers me that JB publicly states that we need players with 'HEFT' and then he targets a 5'10" 165lb winger. “It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.” Also a pest, ask MacKinnon. 1

The only reason it would “block” players is because the organization doesn’t like the optics of big money in the minors.

Hey, I know you're not a fan of [insert sunny city here] but we're going to give you $8 million a year to work here. Ya....I am sure that contract had NOTHING to do with it, I also might add what the team was looking like 2 years ago before management screwed it up again in a big way. it had promise when he signed then.... PositionOfPower
Seriously what is Benning thinking giving up a 1st round pick???? We could have a gotten a good player. At least make another deal to get first round pick. This seems a like a panic button move to make quick changes to save his job since prospects take time. Very dissapointed we gave up a first all because he made those bad deals with Eriksson, Beagle, Roussel.

Butters Stoch
For those thinking that OEL is going to miraculously bounce back to being a top pairing d at age 30 after declining the last few years, spoilers: he won't. Garland is the real centerpiece we're getting here and can really make or break this trade for us if we can sign him to a good value contract.

It’s been a weird scouting year with COVID, and there isn’t a consensus top 10. Yes. It's a crap shoot. Scouting was next to impossible. Of course some teams will get lucky. I still think the pick was expandable. I'd rather draft based on the recent data which is pretty much non existent due to CoVid.

TheCustodian
OEL is basically Tyler Myers and we will be paying him over $1M more AAV forever. $13M for the Myers/OEL combo.
