[Trade] Canucks trade Jay Beagle, Loui Eriksson, Antoine Roussel, 2021 1st-round pick, 2022 2nd-round pick, 2023 7th-round pick to Coyotes for Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Conor Garland

Just like with Schmidt no one knows how OEL will play in Vancouver until they hit the ice this year. Schmidt was promoted as a top pairing guy.

Lets just hope this is the best trade Jim has ever made. If not you got him for 6 years at 7 mil.

Jones is better and younger than OEL.   They are closer in quality than many here seem to think.  Jones contract is massive and will take him to 35 and so does OEL.

Adam Boquist, 2 1st's and a 2nd?  Adam Boquist is a great young player.  Those are incredible picks.

JB got Garland a 1st line RW.  He gave up 3 contracts totalling 12 mil.  He gave up a 2nd next year.  He gave up a 7th in 2 yrs.

After seeing what Philly paid for Risto and Chi paid for Jones, this is up there with the best deals in Canuck history.

JB rules!

Agree! Basically, if someone in the organization could GAURANTEE that the 9 O/A pick would be top 4 defenceman or top 6 forward then we don't make this deal. Otherwise, we basically got OEL for a 1st, Garland for a 2nd, and paid ARZ a 7th to dump 3 bad contracts.

A couple of days ago if GMJB reported that the Canucks had made a side deal with the Kraken to trade them Roussel, Beagle and LE for the price of a 7th, we'd be calling it the greatest deal in the history of the NHL.

First reaction was WTF, but after reflection JB moved us from a cap problem to in the cat bird seat while improving us for the mid-term.  He can now make all his remaining off-seasons moves without the cap at his back and other than re-signing Hamonic had no need to pay UFAs

OEL at 7 M at 35-36 vs Edler 6 M at the same age is a simlar risk in my mind and much better than forking out 6x6 to LE at 30

Garland let’s us move Miller to third line C with Podz plus to roll 3 scoring lines

I am OK with this, not what I would’ve done but I respect it

Miller on the third line - I liked him on the lotto line because he adds grit and pushback for Elias.  I also don't want him feeling buried on the third line.  He's too good for that.

Not a fan of this trade although I appreciate the motivation and logic.

This trade transferred all of the risks to Vancouver. Is Ekman-Larsson going to play well for Van? How much will Garland sign for? This trade is a GAMBLE for Vancouver.

Ekman- Larsson is not a RD. He came off another bad year. Garland is tiny and may not perform well in the playoffs. Vancouver has arguably overpaid by throwing in the 2nd round draft pick.

Nonetheless, I still think J.B. is a decent G.M. He is pretty average, not bad and not great.

As a follow up to my first reactions above in quotes couple hours ago, I feel better now about giving up the 1st round draft pick because none of the 4 top D prospects were available at 9th overall nor was McTavish and Kent Johnson there. I also feel good about not losing any young players especially Rathbone and Hoglander. This trade is still very risky but OEL’s contract is relatively speaking buyout friendly. If the caps go up eventually we can buy him out after 4 years.

I absolutely love this trade if it was anyone other than Benning that made it. Roussel, Eriksson, and Beagle were all signed by Benning. If it were another gm that came in and cleaned up Bennings anchor contracts I would love it. He is the one that caused the problem in the first place, so I find it hard to pat him on the back and say "hey what a great trade".

It's kind of ridiculous when you think about it.
