Not saying the Canucks have lost the trade (because we'd have to see which version of OEL we're getting) but it's disingenuous to leave out such a big detail. Everybody knows the details. I am just pointing out the disparity between the deals. But there are always "fans" who will accuse me of being disingenuous, because their goal is to be as negative as possible and find it annoying when others want to actual be happy about their team.

Just knowing they want to be on our team is a huge plus. Hopefully the sum of the parts is greater than the whole.

So why sell off 9th overall to be a little bit better right now? Because you want to show your players that matter that you want to improve the team so they don't become like Edmonton's kids back when all they cared about was lottery picks. 9th overall pick doesn't do much for this squad. Our foundation is largely set. Now is the time to build around them. It helps build up their confidence and instead of looking at the direction the team is going and saying "well they don't care about winning, so why should we?" They can look forward to fighting and battling for playoffs. Being competitive in 2 years could just mean being a cup contender. They can and should be a playoff contender now.

They took full advantage. He fixed that today. Without dissing them in the media. Class. I really like your more positive take.

Popular Post BlueDragon23
Have to think Jim knew how the cards were going to fall today, so that’s likely why he felt okay trading the pick away. Seeing how things turned out today, I’d say he made the right call. We got rid of a lot of dead weight and scored a good player in Garland, and a proven D Man in Ekman-Larsson. Me like.

Popular Post DeNiro
One thing to consider is OEL as a mentor to Petey. I know Swedes don’t only bond with other Swedes but we saw the bond Petey had with Marky. OEL can now be that older mentor to Petey. He was the captain in Arizona for a reason. 5 9

And it’s not right now. Garland is 25 and fits our window as well, Dmen can also stay relevant longer with experience aiding their play as shown by Ekman-Larsson who is still just 30. 1

Like I said, our foundation is very good. The biggest complaint last season was we had nobody else come along and help out the studs. At no point has Minnesota had a young core that looked as good as ours. We have Boeser, Horvat, Pettersson, Hughes, Demko, Podkolzin and Hoglander. Legit pieces. So us trading picks to help them out isn't the same as Minnesota trading their picks just to keep their heads above water. 2 1
