[Speculation] Boston has offer on the table for Canucks backup Braden Holtby

Recommended Posts

if true, the deal must be either a 5th rounder for holtby with retained salary OR holtby for debrusk cause the money is similar

Do we really want another project though?

What does Debrusk even bring other than his dad finally not hating on the Canucks?

I'd do Holtby for a 7th or, if retained, a better pick.

The big question is what happens with Schmidt, if you move Schmidt & replace him with someone making 4.5M or so, then that will make retention on Holtby easier.

I personally wouldn't retain.  We still need a backup and there aren't a ton of options out there.

Makes no sense to retain.

After signing a backup for around 2 mil we wouldn’t be saving like any cap.

Well if you could retain and get a backup while saving even if it’s just marginal cap savings and get an asset (maybe a pick) out of the deal I’d call it a win.

Everyone has to compete for the spot, yea. He's overpaid for sure, but so is Holtby. If we can clear all the cap and sign Hamonic, Savard and Khaira or a similar combo could round out the team nicely . Also Green does have the option of running 3 offensive lines

Hoglander - Petterson - Boeser

Pearson - Horvat - Garland

DeBrusk - Miller - Podkolzin

Motte - Dickinson - Highmore

Khaira/MacEwan/etc

DeBrusk would be nice.

He either had more than 40 points and/or projected to have more than 40 points every season except this past covid crap season. He has decent size, skates really well  and is good on the forecheck.....at least that is my synopsis of his play.

A Virtanen type without the troubled airhead attached to a lazibody.

Why is Boston so motivated to dump him then?

Wouldn’t know. But it sure isn’t sexual harassment.

And if it is, then good luck in Buffalo with Virtanen.

Holtby had a .889 SV% and 3.67 GAA... that was tied for 52nd in the league... only Hart was worse. I think we can find a better backup

I'm pretty sure Baumgartner was a big part of the problem.  There's not a lot of decent backups available this season, which is why teams are interested in Holtby.  We need to avoid being stuck with a guy like Rittich who has proven himself to not be NHL material.

Not too sure but I think he had a bit of a falling out with the coach......not sure over what though.

Buy low sell high.

Come and make a career of yourself son.

I agree with the poster above:

BOS

Holtby

VAN

DeBrusk
