[Speculation] Boston has offer on the table for Canucks backup Braden Holtby

Everyone has to compete for the spot, yea. He's overpaid for sure, but so is Holtby. If we can clear all the cap and sign Hamonic, Savard and Khaira or a similar combo could round out the team nicely . Also Green does have the option of running 3 offensive lines

Hoglander - Petterson - Boeser

Pearson - Horvat - Garland

DeBrusk - Miller - Podkolzin

Motte - Dickinson - Highmore

Khaira/MacEwan/etc

Like it.. but maybe lets give Bo more talent for once.

Khaira with Dickinson and Mackewan would be a beast of a 4th line.

haha many combos are possible, but Garland is pretty talented! Could go with DeBrusk riding coattails:

DeBrusk - Petey - Boeser

Hoggie - Horvat - Garland

Pearson - Miller - Podkolzin

Motte - Dickinson - Highmore

Khaira/MacEwan/etc

So now garland is down to the 3rd or 4th line? Smh :picard:

I see Debrusk as more of a 3rd liner but competition within the lineup never hurts.

Wow our cap situation is actually looking up. If we manage to shed one of Schmidt/Holtby, sign Pettersson/Hughes to 7mil max each. And sign Dickinson/Garland to cheap contracts, we do actually have some cap to spend still.

I like JB as GM, better than smug Gillis imho, but I really think there must be some influence from the Sedins in all this. Too early to tell but all the moves so far seem like wins or lateral moves and no losses.

Fingers crossed.

Overpaying for middle six depth is a tale as old as time.

If we got Debrusk and Clifton for Holtby and Schmidt we get 2 players who can slot into our lineup plus we gain around 6m in cap to chase another RHD.

Ugh it's painful to look at the Bruins stats. Such good signings:

Bergeron - 6.875M

Pastrnak - 6.67M

Marchand - 6.125

McAcoy - 4.9M

That's some really good cap management. That being said, most of these contracts end in the next year or 2. Boston needs to load up now while they have all these players. Schmidt is unlikely I think, but he would honestly be great for their powerplay.

Holtby fits their mold perfectly, as they have money for him this year, but won't have money for him next year. They can role wtih a Holby/Rask combo and take some pressure of both guys. I'd go for Studnicka, or a 3rd/2nd round pick for Holtby.

I love the motor on Studnicka.  I'd be very happy with him as the return.

How about Nick Ritchie?  We apparently need some “heft”.

Miller-Petterson-Boeser

Hoglander-Horvat-Garland

Pearson-Dickinson-Podkolzin

Motte-Sutter-Ritchie

Clifton doesn’t exactly bring size.

I seem to remember him being a big hitter though no?

Don't forget we do need to find another backup goalie too though.

Well since BOS has so much cap space, then maybe just Holtby (no retention) for 2nd 2022.  Then Canucks get a $1M backup and add $3M to the cap space.
