That Horvat line could easily be called the "2nd line". Fwiw Ritchie produces at a .5ppg rate. More than a "4th liner". We could use someone like him to balance out our lines. Fat boy won’t be able to keep up. His fitness level makes Virtanens look good. Probably why the Bruins are dumping him. That and he’s gonna want too much after his stats were inflated. PetterssonOrPeterson
Isn't he the guy the knocked out Oleksiak? He's in Seattle and would be nice if Ritchie came to Vancouver

Big guys that can play who drop the gloves and hit like a dump truck are worthy roster spots. If you can get him you welcome him with open arms. 1

Don’t you question why Boston, a team that loves big players, wouldn’t even be willing to qualify him?

But otherwise 62.2% ozone starts / 54.1% corsi 2.0 on ice goals for 5on5 - not good, considering his minutes (2.3 against). 2:44/game powerplay ice time. Played primarily with Krejci (44 pts in 51 games). I'm not particularly interested in giving him those kind of minutes/conditions in order to extract 26 pts and some unimpressive 'possession' and goal metrics out of him....ie don't expect production resembling that on our fourth line....
KariyaSakicAnderson
He could still re-sign with Boston by Wednesday. If they qualified him and he didn't accept it, they'd end up in arbitration. This way this gives Boston a chance to negotiate a contract at similar avv or lower if Ritchie wants to stay there.
justathought
NR might not be the guy for us, but I do like the idea of more skilled tough'n'gritty players filling in the roster.
higgyfan
My preference is for the Nucks to focus on top 4 RD. If it happens that he is big and can hit like a mack truck, all the better.

I don't think they want him back. At that salary he is a bargain. Ritchie is probably looking at $2.5-$3 million so they cut him loose. Boston is probably saving that cap space for someone else. over a million the qualifying offer only needs to equal the previous cap = 1.5

Did Boston not think they could trade him with his contract demands perhaps? Seems odd to cut him loose after scoring 15 goals in a shortened season. He seems to be the type of player Boston likes to have.
JeremyCuddles
Would be a gnarly 3rd line addition. Ritchie Dickinson Podkolzin? Oh boy does that sound good. But we start losing spots for other players. Miller Pettersson Boeser Pearson Horvat Hoglander Ritchie Dickinson Podkolzin Motte (FA/Sutter) MacEwen Do we run a 4th line of Motter Big Mac/Sutter and Pod? And Garland on the 3rd line? I'd really like to see Pod with the 3rd line though. Guess it's a nice problem to have, but I wanna see Pod get some minutes. 4th line deployment will probably see him around 19/0 minutes a game, but 3rd line would see him closer to 14/15. He's young, but he has energy and drive to be a regular 3rd liner out the gate.

Although I imagine Bertuzzi's back surgery also played a part. They can qualify Ritchie at 1.5 but he sure as heck isn't gonna accept it. He was on pace for over 20 goals last season. Easily worth 3.5+ you have to imagine. 1

Guy was basically buried on his Russian team and needs to play a lot this year. Best for his development.
