Nice work Jimmy. kind of, if a team offered this contract and we walked away we would get a 1st and 3rd round pick from said team. Better return than he would net on his own via trade imo. Hope Garland becomes our version of Gallagher...don't think he gets into the rough stuff consistantly like Gally but I have no idea, never really watched the guy just figured with him being near the top of scoring for the team that the Yotes were in a world of trouble if Garland is leading the way...now he is ours so I hope he bursts onto the scene and outplays this contract ala Burrows and his 4yr 8m deal we had him on for a while

Smashian Kassian
Glad they locked him up long term, 5 or 6 years is what I was hoping for, I think 5 is pretty much perfect. And it's a good AAV aswell, fair value for both. If he's as important for us as he was for Arizona, might even be great value ala Miller/Horvat. Awesome all around. Was thinking he would be 5+ mil buying UFA years, creates a lot of cost certainty and certainty for Bo, that he has a legitimate RW for the next 2 years and potential few years afterwards should he resign. Good piece of work with this contract. Now get Pettersson signed before FA begins...I'd like to sleep soundly not having to wake up to find out an offer sheet is coming for the rest of the summer. I assume you meant re-sign not resign?

Good fair deal. Yes but you have to remember that when he was signing those other deals our core was younger and still growing. He surrounded them with guys that could carry them and teach them how to be NHLers. Benning was buying time. Now the core is a bit more mature and needs to be surrounded by complimentary players that can fill in the missing gaps. Now Benning is filling in a competitive roster. I’m not saying every move has been perfect but if you look at the progression of this team over the past few years, from a high level, it makes sense. Last year was an anomaly because of many reasons (covid, expansion, crappy schedule, etc) but if you look past it, you can see a larger plan. flickyoursedin
Great deal! Nice and long deal! Guy had a 65 point pace shortened season last year if he can even replicate that on this deal he’s a steal!

He has effectively played two seasons worth of NHL hockey and he is 25. As much as Benning has been above average in amateur evaluation, he has been below average in pro scouting. I hope this one is a hit and not a miss. It “seems” like he is a great fit for Bo’s line. Bo isn’t a great playmaker for a centre, and Garland is apparently a great set up man. The downside is his size and the size of some of the rest of our core being really small. Hoglander, Petterson, Hughes, and Garland now make up a big chunk of our group and they don’t have much “heft”. It means we know exactly the type of player to surround them with. Bigger body physical guys who can complement the smaller skill. Good news is that those guys are cheaper and easier to find than high end skill talent. All in all a fairly balanced risk. If Garland can be a 50-60 point guy regularly while only being on the 2nd PP unit… that could be one of our first really good value contracts going forward. If he is a 30-40 point guy who doesn’t bring much else to the table m, we will probably be overpaying for that. Yeah there are a couple of small guys but the rest of our projected top 9 are definitely not small. Miller - 6'1 218lbs Boeser - 6'1 208lbs Horvat - 6'0 215lbs Podkolzin - anywhere from 6'0 to 8'9 and 190 to 208 Dickinson - 6'2 200lbs Pearson - 6'1 201lbs And Hoglander maybe 5'9 but he's also 190lbs which means he's still a very solid guy. So we definitely have the skilled guys with "heft" to play the smaller players with and don't have to bring anymore in except for maybe a 4th liner like Khaira. He would make a good edition to the 4th to play with Motte and cycle between Highmore and MacEwen on the other wing. It should make for a very interesting season this year. 2 1 1
rekker
This contract will define JB going forward and will put him at either hero or goat territory. Fired or rehired. He has signed some painfully contracts, forced some buyouts. If this ends up a dud, JB is done. I for one like it and to be honest he plays a style that we need more than Taffoli. Welcone Garland, I think you will be a fan favourite soon enough. 1

Spoosh
I was expecting something 3.5-4M but the important thing is that it is done. 5M for Garland makes me think 7M for Pettersson is not gonna cut it tho. 5 years I like. We’ll have a core group intact for several years and I for one believe this is our season to get back in the hunt for the cup.
JeremyCuddles
Not gonna lie, I was hoping for something closer to Pearson's contract. But this works. If he can maintain his play from last season this is a very fair deal. He's still very much young too. So he has room to grow if there's anymore potential to squeeze outta him.
