Who else was battling for the rights to deploy Loui Erksson & at that  money or term? The fact that big contracts were being awarded, does not justify Loui Ericksson being offered such a reward!

Loui’s chumminess with Benning (BOS) as well as the Sedins (Team-Sweden), uber-tempted JB to over-sell LE’s worth & potential to the Aquilinis. He clearly over-paid the player & promised far more to the fans than LE could ever-possibly deliver. No other GMs were  chomping at the bit to sign Loui Ericksson, at that kind of money &  term.

Loui was looking to avoid being bounced around, was already in decline, & simply hoped to resurrect his career & do special things upon reunification with the Sedins, which as we saw - never happened.

Ignoring evidence and restating your point doesn't mean you are supporting it.

Lots of UFAs were awful that year, but you didn't even address that. Look at your blatant hate for the Loui lol.

He scored his first game.

Against us lol

The entire acquisition had bad juju placed on it. Can you imagine if Eriksson continued his pace from the previous years? No one would say a word about it.

Is is not ironic that when people suggest trading a Canuck that can improve the team either by player or cap, some get defensive, saying how good they are and what they bring, but then when traded immediately, they repeat what others had been saying earlier, and say good riddance?

It’s like breaking up with someone…

You don’t see clearly until after the decision. Then you’re like… wow… I’m glad that happened.

I see your point. For a player like Schmidt, the trade seems to confirm that he didn't like it here. It's possible that it's not the city that he dislikes, but rather he did not fit with the personnel. Totally speculating - maybe he's a Covid denier? Honestly, something else seems to have caused him to want out this badly. After the trade has happened, I guess a lot of fans are glad he's gone if he doesn't want to be here.

I think a lot of ppl wanted Rous traded. Beagle and so forth were costing way too much for their duties as well, even though they were solid character guys.

As for Gaudette, there were some rumours surrounding him about Covid that may have been the reason for why the team got it. But at the same time, there wasn't really a room for him. I'm sure lots of Canucks hoped he'd play better, but he didn't.

If Boeser got traded though, I don't think ppl will be too happy, even if the return was excellent.

I noticed his hot start! Good for him. Unfortunate for us he couldn’t put together his offence and we’d have been able to recoup more in a trade.

If Schmidt did well with the Canucks, then most likely he wouldn't have been traded.  Then Canucks probably wouldn't have made the deal with Coyotes dumping those contracts and giving up picks to get OEL and Garland.

While Kudos to Schmidt for his hot start, I think VAN made off like bandits in the trade with ARI. ::D

It should be to the surprise of nobody that Schmidt is doing well.

One that very much got away...

I have watched 2 games with Nate playing for the Jets. While we saw flashes of his great abilities with Van last year they were few and far between.

Fans in Vancouver have to wonder whether Nate’s lack of success was from his coaching while here. I give the guy full credit for making the change and not talking much about his experience here. I would love to have a few wobbly pops with NATE and have a conversation. I wish him well.

It was/is definitely the system.  We didn't really put him into comfortable or familiar positions to succeed.

This is exactly it. And it’s become a theme with this coaching staff.

Can you imagine, if Loui gets it out of his system and scored 30 this year :P

The players  got rewarded with big contracts from the club though, the least they can do is follow the leader, and let them sink or swim

Ownership will take an interest and is around to see the problem i am sure and notice if the players are doing what they are told too or just not being team players and following

So if it's not the team? It's the coach?

Or it’s the usage?

Which is sort of the coach’s fault, but also the GM’s, because he built the roster.

Schmidt was used as a shutdown/matchup D in Vancouver. Around 30% offensive zone starts, playing mostly with Edler, and matched up against the opposition’s best players.

And in that role, he actually had some of the better results on the team, in what was a pretty bad season for everyone.

I don’t really blame Green for this. He didn’t really have better options available. And as bad as the team was, it would probably have been even worse without the Edler-Schmidt pairing taking on the tough minutes last year.

(Unpopular take: Nate Schmidt was actually pretty good for the Canucks, and performed quite admirably in the role he was assigned, especially relative to the rest of the team.)

Now in Winnipeg, he’s being used in a much more offensive minded role, with much more favourable deployment (around 55% offensive zone starts), and higher PP time.

Instead of playing shutdown/matchup minutes, he’s now being used as more of an offensive/two-way top pairing D (he’s 2nd in defenceman icetime at evens, PP, and all situations for the Jets).

Not really surprising that Schmidt’s offensive production has magically rebounded and he’s had a very strong overall start to the season.

Schmidt never really got a chance to get comfortable here. Came into a completely new system, no real training camp and no exhibition games, then went straight into the schedule from hell and fans jumping all over him, because he didn't have time to settle in.

Best of luck to him, knew we'd be looking back at a missed opportunity.

Schmidt also gave the puck away for an easy Ducks goal yesterday. The points will probably cool off, but he will need to stop turning the puck over too.

With that said, he does look much better than when he was a Canuck.
