Neither.

A 3rd was an incredible price for Schmidt, Benning's best trade by far.

Even after a tough year, Schmidt is worth more than a 3rd.

Unless he desperately wanted out, I hoped we would keep him. His value to us if he has a bounce back season is obviously much higher than a 3rd.

Same, but the offer sheet scare might've made this trade a must right now.

He wants out. Not sure much difference there.

We weren't forced to accommodate him though. We could have played him and traded him to a contender for a better return at the trade deadline. Hopefully Benning has some reliable d-men in mind to replace him. Right now we have Myers and Bowey.

I’d rather have Schmidt than a 3rd.
our defence took a big step forward, now a big step back.
Schenn is no upgrade.

I am sure they plan on adding a RHD better than Schenn.

In what world is Schmidt worth way less than Dillon in a trade. I know Dillon is cheaper but Schmidt is a much better D man, at least we got a pick back I guess...but very underwhelming return imo

Petey and Hughes are squeezing us, so Benni g had to do Holtz and Schmidt today in order to sign them. We'll likely be hearing about a Petey signing today, any minute now.

Everybody keeps saying saying he’d worth more than a 3rd.

No, he’s not.
Because after shopping him since the exit interviews ended, a 3rd rounder in a good draft is what was determined as fair current market value and most that any GM wanted to offer whether any of us likes it or not.

If he was worth more in the marketplace right now, with the contract clause and those teams declined on him, then effectively his value is determined.

Can’t compare apples and oranges (eg. Brenden Dillon)
