[Signing] Oilers re-sign Tyson Barrie

Vancouver has more than two actual NHL defensemen.

Internet issues, first post didn't seem to go through.

Barrie had 48points in 58 games? Sure it doesn't help them win every game but that'll help a little bit

Is Hughes any better in his own end than Barrie?

Vancouver only has two proven NHL dmen signed to contracts.

Rathbone, Juolevi are still unproven. Hughes still has to sign his deal, and plenty of people were complaining about the play in his own zone.

Hughes is far better in his own zone than Barrie.  Hughes had one bad year due to Baumgartner; Barrie has had an entire career where he has not even approached an acceptable level of play in his own zone.  I don't care how many points you put up, when you're as much of a defensive liability as Barrie is, you belong in the press box.  Even worse when you have young Dmen around him seeing him rewarded for playing like complete trash.  Barrie is an absolute bum, always has been, and always will be.  We have guys in Abbotsford who are better options than a defenseman who can't play defense.

Glad to see someone without their rose colour glasses on. As much as some people here dont want to admit it, defensively Barrie was better then Hughes. Granted Hughes is young. Barrie has actually been one of the best underrated puck moving defenceman in the league for a long time. Hughes and Barrie have a lot of similarities. Alot.

Dave Semenko once quipped that a fire hydrant could score 20 goals playing with Wayne Gretzky.  Connor McDavid, love him or hate him, is the modern day Gretzky.  Barrie could be the fire hydrant and get the points he got last season simply by playing PP with McDavid.

A fire hydrant might not be the worst of linemates. I guarantee you that Gretzky could get more goals with a hydrant than he could with me.

Barrie had a boatload of points last year, so this is a win for Edmonton.

This is a win for my fantasy hockey team.

This is great for their division rivals.  Committing long term to a defenseman who can't play defense, leaving Nurse and an aging Keith as  the only actual NHLers on the Oilers blueline.  Looking forward to seeing our forwards expose this pylon.

Barrie does what Quinn does plus more. Better than Quinn on D side. Puts up a ton of PP points.

3*5 would be a good deal...

With the re vamp roster and Shaw’s addition - I wonder if McD & Draist will still be padding there stats when they play against the Canucks.

Perhaps this time it will the Canucks padding there stats against them ?

They are similar but QH has far better overall hockey and positional sense than Barrie. He sees and reads the game much better. Barrie doesn’t so much drive the play as he does capitalize on it.
QH drives and carries the play. Both are great offensive Dman, PP anchors, but Hughes is far more versatile.

Give QH a bit more time in the league (he’s only 21 btw) and you’ll see a refined, accountable Dman.
Don’t think Barrie has that in his game. He’s 30, haven’t seen it yet.
