Yeah because good teams are run by good GMs that don't sign buy-out tier contracts.  Easy enough assessment lol.

Lmao, keep trying. Tyler Johnson? How about when Chicago signed Seabrook? Pretty sure we could go on and on for ever and find bad contacts on good teams that would be bought out if it made sense.

You already hit the nail on the head though in regards to why we don't see that.

They didn't buy-out Johnson.  They sent a 2nd with him to gain LTIR cap-space.  Pretty easy W considering some teams like the Islanders and Flyers sent players with assets for free and didn't even get LTIR space.

I’m more than happy to see what Poolman can bring to our group… and I’m happy we were able to bring back Hamonic.

but in a perfect world I’d let them both go and take Larsson… even at 5 mil instead of the 4 he signed for. Still super chapped at Seattle for that.

Not disagreeing because I also thought Larsson could fit well here.

But we are going for depth. If we signed Larsson but not the other two, one injury to Larsson and we have to reach for a Chatfield.

Now, we have Poolman that can step in to top 4 minutes if there is an injury to Hamonic and Schenn that can step in for top 6 minutes if there is an injury to Poolman.

I'm satisfied with the moves. Sure would have been nice to get Poolman on a cheaper deal, maybe 2 mil or 2.5 but a shorter term but he's only 27 so there shouldn't be any decline in play over the next 4 years.

This guy had one above average season in 19-20... and I'm guessing JB saw something real special in this guy to commit 4 years at $2.5M AAV?? I see that he's played one season with Myers.. so I wonder if Myers gave us some endorsement...

Poolman has only played 140 NHL games.  He’s still maturing as a player, and (because he’s 28) it’s a steep curve of growth.  The guy is really good.  He shuts down top players.  Look at his playoff minutes against McDavid and Draisatl.  Guy is going to be awesome on our bottom pair.

Poolman had a big year last season, ended up playing 20+ minutes a lot of the time with the Jets so was basically a top-4 defenceman. Not flashy at all, nice stay-at-home guy, 2.5M is pretty decent considering he played so much.

I think he has to start on our bottom pairing but let's see what Green has in mind, he'd be a great steady partner for Rathbone to be honest. Hopefully he'll play some PK minutes for us too. That being said we could pair him with Ekman-Larsson?

OEL - Myers

Hughes - Hamonic

Rathbone - Pullman

Juolevi/Schenn

3 puck-movers, 3 solid steady defencemen, a bit of size and bit of grit mixed in there but some very decent depth. Last season our 8th defenceman might have been Sautner? Chatfield was our 7th defenceman. This year our 8th defenceman is Luke Schenn, says a lot.

Ya but it was a sh!t contract hence why they sent a 2nd to get rid of it, and you literally just said good teams don't sign sh!t contracts

(Yes I know you said "buy out tier" but anything buy out tier is a bad contract that's the point so kind of the same thing)

Sooooo…

Hughes - Hamonic

and

Rathbone - Poolman

With OEL-Myers soaking up the tough matchups and snarky comments?

Or does Myers play with the kids and Poolman with OEL?

I don't think Rathbone plays much this year tbh. We've only really got room for 1 small powerplay specialist.

I think Myers stays with Juolevi if Juolevi is in the lineup this year

Maybe:
OEL-Hamonic
Hughes-Poolman
Juolevi-Myers
*Schenn

For sure and from what I’ve read he plays a style of game we need to round out the team.

I’m hoping this is a bit of “greater than the sum of its parts” with Poolman, Hamonic and Schenn likely pairing with some quality puck movers.

This coming from someone who still thinks an incompetent clown who left a giant mess for Benning to clean up was a good GM.   There is a reason no NHL team has hired Gillis.

Hope this helps.

Not sure about the player so I’m going to reserve judgement. After all these stay at home guys on the right side I’m actually ok if we signed Barrie for one year.

Didn’t Barrie re sign with the perennial lottery champs Spoilers ?

At their best, I think Juolevi “fits” better with Myers but I thought Rathbone looked like he had some real jump last year.

I hope they both show up ready to go and that’s one of the better battles in camp.

4 years is too long no matter how you slice it.

Teams are not clamouring for a player like this.

Maybe, but at least you didn't post " Never seen him, don't know a thing about him, but it is too long".

Thus maintaining something known as credibility.

Unlike a whole pile of people on this thread.

Also we all know his type, he won't reply or talk about his own obvious contradictions or acknowledge when he has shown to be wrong, and will instead just start to resort to name calling etc.

It already happening.

Look out for zero facts coming your way and baseless speculation with nothing backing it up, and when proven wrong a sudden change of direction with no acknowledgement.
