Benning is guilty of zeroing in on certain players he values and getting them at any cost.

Seems like this role could have been filled for cheaper, and at the very least less term committed.

That being said I don’t know much about him. Do his defensive stats stand out in a good way?

Ya, it is clear he gets tunnel vision (for better or worse)... he doesn't seem to go in with a "walk away" number and ends up committing just a little extra in money or term than he should.  Same goes for trades where there is always an extra pick or something thrown in that he should just tell the other side no deal if they insist on and then move to the next option.

This one is a big head scratcher in money and term.

Does it mean Schenn is a #7 guy?  What if Schenn outplays him and/or fits better with Rathbone?  Can't figure what the thought process was.  Not good defensively, non existent offence, not young at all...not a physical guy either.  Nothing I can see so far shows he is really an upgrade on a guy like Chatfield or Brisebois, other than he has a little more NHL experience with 120 NHL games in and out of the press box in Winnipeg.

Maybe their pro scouts see some untapped potential in him, but they shouldn't be paying for potential and just be paying for what he has shown.  This way there isn't any upside to the contract.

OEL-Myers
Hughes-Hamonic
Rathbone-Poolman
Juolevi-Schenn

Did you compliment the moves incessantly like you do with your whining?

no - he saves his incessant fluffing for the Laffs/Dubas

contrives absurd 'arguments' like

"Dubas acquired McCann to leverage a #proper return on Kerfoot". :picard:

wut?

when you can outsmart yourself so soundly - in fluffing a GM that can't get a single playoff round win out of a #proper-rebuild and lottery champion / inevitable contender and multiple cup winner...it's impossible to take anything the guy says in here seriously.

It's one thing to mix the odd one-liner in amongst some actual substance - but the endless one-liner whinging from that crew.... twitter versions of the smarmies that 'inform' them.

Actually it is a good thing in case it doesn't work out. Try and spin it is a negative but the reality is its better then if it wasn't. Therefor it's a positive.

Also teams buyout players all the time

Exactly. This year's buyouts created 6.5 million in cap this season while only adding 1.5 next season while saving almost 4 million real money.

Having buyout friendly contracts when used properly are fine.

At this point Schenn is, and should be, a depth guy. Poolman was playing top minutes for WPG against EDM's stars in the playoffs. Not saying we want him doing that here but you sure as h*** don't want Schenn doing that.

Game Log for Winnipeg comparing Josh Morrissey vs Poolman

There are many who feel like Poolman was their 7th but when the chips were all in for the playoffs Winnipeg chose to play him at a fair rate in comparison to their #1 utilized defenseman

Overall he seems like he's average defenseman that can hold his head above water and has decent size. Term is a bit long but 2.5m is probably just fine.
