In thread warning from the mods. There have been lots of reports generated from this thread for name calling. Both sides, for and against, are guilty of this. Let’s dial down the insults and discuss the team in a civil manner. We should all be able to disagree without having to resort to name calling. Let’s try to do this ourselves without having to get warning points involved. Thanks everybody. Cheers

If Poolman at 2.5 is our new whipping boy... then we're doing pretty good.


I fear there may be even more hate for Tyler Myers going forward now, for the same reason you described above, but I don't have much of a problem with him.

He's overpaid, sure. Not the beeeest defensively, but I'd hate to see what we'd try to replace him with.

 

Kinda wish our fanbase didn't have to "hate" anybody, though...

Certain folks are conditioned to be bitter about such things. They'll take their cues from idiots on Twitter who wear their bias as a badge of honor. Please don't define the entire fanbase based on the embittered few.

I think they want some stability and continuity on the 5/6 pair.  A never ending parade of cheap bandaid players isn't good.  Goalies need to know and trust the d Corp.

Rick Dhaliwal confirmed he had a ton of teams after him and his scouting report has been positive. Battled covid last season and took puck to face season before that, which is why he hasn’t been able to play full seasons.

Great skater was also paired with Morrisey.

Yes, it's the logical fan's fault for not liking awful, buyout candidate from the second they are signed contracts.

Exactly. I wonder how many other fanbases around the league have portions of said fanbase that harp endlessly on about a signing of a depth defenseman making $2.5M a season. I get harping on about Eriksson's AAV when he was here, but this is almost like a parody.

Kinda glad I was working today and missed the CDC emotional roller coaster.

 

As far as what JB has done today and in the last week...including Poolmans giant, massive, hefty, insane, huge  2.5 mil per....

Coming from a pretty pro-analytics guy, I’d say that even the best metrics are generally only giving you about half the picture on the value of any given player, and a little less when it comes to Dmen, and even less when it’s a defensive Dman.

 

These are very useful tools, but they have their limitations.

 

And while I’m actually a fan of guys like JFresh, and think he does a good job creating very accessible snapshots that give people a good sense of some of the underlying data, I’d never recommend using those charts (or any chart/stat/etc) as a single measure of either past/current value, or future performance predictions.

 

It’s just not that simple.

 

Poolman, as I see him, is a capable defensive Dman with good size, and RH shot, who can be relied upon for middle pairing minutes, with fairly tough deployment, and against higher end competition.

 

$2.5M is a fair AAV for this kind of player.

 

I don’t like the four year term, but I’d probably have issues with any signing in his age group getting that term, unless they are considered higher end talents (which he’s not), or it’s an absolute bargain AAV (which it’s also not). But at the same time, it’s not like we haven’t seen comparable players getting similar term, so it’s probably just the market, and can’t really fault anyone in particular (it’s kind of everyone’s fault, when it comes to the shot callers, both GMs and agents :lol:).

 

I think Poolman will be a useful player here and should earn his money, based on what a player of his profile can provide to a team, and especially, what this particular team, in the Canucks, needed added to their D corps.


It’s not my favourite piece of work by this GM, but I’m certainly not bothered by it either. And putting the contract aside, I like the player and like the idea of adding Poolman to the group.
