His contract would begin when he starts playing for the AHL team.

No it slides for a year unless he plays more than 10 games with the big team (Vancouver Canucks)

From his highlights… the shape and size of his frame combined with his vision and stick speed reminds me of Nathan MacKinnon. If he can get lower in his stride and sharpen up his all-around game even more than we might have a massive steal here.

Ya, no pressure there  LOL.

Let's keep this real. He has been playing in a league that is below leagues like the Q.

I think we would all be over the moon if he becomes a big physical winger who has nose for the net .

Think Lucic.

I never said he is Nathan MacKinnon… I said his frame with stick speed and vision reminds me of him. He’s likely not Nathan MacKinnon. The level he’s been playing at right now doesn’t mean anything. He just turned 18 in January and any prospect that young should not be examined too hard on where they’re at but where they could be at. He’s not a physical Lucic style winger. He’s far more skilled than that. Different and higher-end style of play

Only if he plays in the CHL or goes back to Russia. Playing in the AHL would have us paying him under his NHL contract. He can't sign an AHL contract on top of his NHL contract.

I heard otherwise. Think I read it on Canucks army that it slide no matter where he plays next year to the following. I could have read false information though.

Actually, there is a provision for players who are 18/19 as of Sept 15th in their signing year. If he were 19 and turning 20 before the end of the year, then it wouldn't. I stand corrected.

I still wouldn't have any issue with having him in the AHL though.

So if he plays in the A this year, his contract slides?

He reminds me of Toffoli actually, but of course he probably has about a 15% chance of getting there.

I suspect a lot of the teams with late 1sts or early 2nds will regret passing on him.  His ceiling is high and his work ethic should help him reach it.

Especially if he has the work ethic of Alexander Burrows.  I went to a couple of practices when Burr was on the team.  First one on, last off, and worked on drills, face offs, and shooting accuracy.  \

I was negative on the idea of a season in the AHL versus the QMJHL and definitely negative on the KHL. Reading opinions I am shifting to Abby. Improve the development and transition process.

I am wondering how much time the Twins will spend in Abbottsford?

I think the Sedins will be attending half the home games out there if I had to guess. And I think physically he’s ready for the AHL and it will serve him well. He’s very big for his age. Just needs to develop his massive upside skill set. Also the same way Benning might get a Russian player for Podkolzin. I think a Belarus native player would help Klimovich as a foreign kid in a big intimidating North American market. Signing someone like Belarus D-man Stepan Falkovsky for Abbotsford would be smart. Falkovsky himself is also only 24 and would be a nice potential piece to add to the system. Still has potential to be a bottom four D-man in the NHL. Size and two-way ability.

Considering they both speak Russian (I believe most Belarusians speak Russian) Podz and Klimovich could likely become best of friends

Belarusians have two main languages including Russian from what I’ve read and it’s apparently more so that Belarusians can sometimes understand when someone is speaking Russian. But there’s still some differences. But yes the similarities in backgrounds and their respective playing styles could complement each other nicely. Hopefully a Podkolzin-Zlodeyev-Klimovich line one day! As for now a Belarusian young player signed for Klimovich in Abbotsford would be nice. As well as trading for a Russian player for Podkolzin up here.. hopefully one of

Nichushkin, Gavrikov, Namestnikov, or Lyubushkin.. all would fit our team and be a big add too.

The guy is 6’2 202 lbs and isn’t even 18 yet.  He looks like he has the solid mass to be able to handle a men’s league.

There is a money component that some aren’t considering and what an AHL salary and signing bonus could mean in Belarus at this moment.

This guy isn’t a spoiled kid ‘growing up’ in a milk toast suburb of Vancouver or any other rich NA city with holistic wellness centres.

The QMHL might not be a feasible option for this kid, who may be carrying a lot more responsibility than we know.

Podz wasn’t sheltered from men in his draft season, why would Klimovich feel any different about the AHL than he would the VHL or KHL.

Earning minutes has a different meaning depending on where you come from.

I do think he's going to get the chance to earn a spot on the AHL roster for sure. Green is pretty good at giving guys a real chance to compete for jobs and I do think the team would be very interested in having this guy in Abby, he'll help put bums in the seats for sure.
