[Signing] Canucks re-sign Travis Hamonic

You don’t need a “metric” if you watched any games at all last year.  The entire team team was a mess due to no practice time and Covid.

The stats mean very little.

Okay, but you can also acknowledge that there's no legitimate evidence that Hamonic is actually a good Tanev replacement then?

Hughes-Tanev was a monumentally better pairing by every metric than Hughes-Hamonic.

Sure. But why are we still talking about Tanev? He’s no longer here. He’s with Calgary. Hamonic last year played decent with Hughes. It’s the best we can do while not breaking the bank with a signing like Hamilton.

day isn’t done yet. Hoping that Benning will announce a Pettersson extension. We need those two guys locked up or else this fan base gets more anxious by the day.

By the end of the year Hamonic was the best dman.

Don’t think anyone can replace Tanev. He was so good defensively here. But we’re past that point now. We got Hamonic. He’s been decent last year (a Covid year no less). Hoping for better this season from him.

I think we tend to forget that we signed Hamonic for a below market deal last year because he wanted to say in Western Canada for the year. Hamonic played well and he deserves this.

I think the line up will look like:

OEL-Myers/Poolman
Hughes-Hamonic
Rathbone-Myers/Poolman

That's some serious size on the right hand side and Hamonic/Poolman being more defensive specialists will allow Hughes and Rathbone to play more aggressively in the O-zone

So much being made of strengthening the right side. Are we really sure Jack Rathbone is ready to play on the left side?

Yeah but the evidence to the contrary requires a ton of context, too. Hughes (and the team) struggled before Hamonic came back from his early season injury and Tanev’s stats looked in decline with Hughes in his last year with Van.

This could still be a very good pairing for us - and Hamonic is signed for cheaper than Tanev.

I think so, Rathbone played extremely well and didn't look out place. I think it will be a positive to have him in the line up.

He’s had two cheap signings .

And yet you commented so little on it, instead spending the bulk of your posts on criticizing.

Everyone else can see you and the others are incapable of staying objective. At least some of us who are a little uncertain about the Poolman signing is able to see the obviously good moves he's made.

Yes, you're biased af.

Jeez. Some posters on here never happy. Like literally always finding some kind of fault for everything.

this off season has to be one of the better ones in recent memory for Benning. He’s been aggressive and smart (for the most part - hate the term in Poolman).

This might be the most excited I have been for a new season since 2011. I think we're going to be a very difficult team to play against.

Proof?

Not the be all, but ...

Hughes:

2019/2020    -10

2020/2021    -24

Tanev is an elite defensive defenseman.

That all said.....I love this signing.  Tanev is gone.   Just from the eye test for me, Hamonic played well.  I like him better even than the 5.9 million Schmidt. Good job Jim!  I can't believe I just said that.

Enough said about your objectivity.

You say maybe one line of praise, and the overwhelming sentiment is, as you said in another comment, about you grabbing pitchforks toward Benning.

Biased. Prove me wrong?

To me it's looking like they want JR to be "the" guy in Abby rather than in and out of the lineup in Van.  They likely see him as a top 4 guy and they'll want to develop him as such.  He doesn't have to clear waivers so it'd make sense
