Steal for a 4/5 DFD. :bigblush:

Good deal & signing for the Avs, a LD that realizes with his injury history he might have limited time to chase a cup. He doesn’t play a position that  we were looking for nor would he likely have had any interest in the Canucks at this point.

That won't stop certain posters on this site from some weak ass, passive aggressive trolling. It'd be mildly entertaining if it wasn't so goddamned predictable.

Can Murray still skate?  The guy looked shockingly slow in the games I saw.  Maybe he was playing hurt?

All those knee injuries early on his career. Injuries in general have cursed the poor guy. Hopefully he can stay healthy and become the D-man he was drafted 2nd overall to be.

man what a horrible draft year

people complain abut Gaunce, but most of the early first stank and 3 players played more games in the next 15 picks

coulda had Skai or Pearson but not much else in the late first early second

Tom Wilson might be the best pick

I actually really liked Gaunce. He had the highest percentage of

defensive zone starts in the NHL and as a young player managed to keep his head above water in possession stats and was a combined +1 post rookie year on teams where most other forwards were bleeding minuses. In fact he had the lowest goals against per minute amongst every Canucks forward which is pretty remarkable given his 85% defensive zone starts.

I think the issue is that instead of developing Gaunce in the mould of Jay Beagle or Manny Malhotra he got moved to wing and was expected to play more physical.

I agree

looking forward to what he can do in Columbus

We are lucky Jim didn't trade Horvat for a bag of pucks

Gaunce seemed to get the "Other guys Pick " treatment

It will be interesting to compare Gaunce and Dickinson at the end of the year

Nothing to compare Gaunce doesn't have NHL skating abilities. Dickinson is a proven shut down guy. Gaunce needs to start in the defensive zone. If he started in the offensive zone he wouldn't be able to transition quick enough to defense. Those that can skate would fly by him. I don't deny his ability to play defense but most can see he can't skate at the NHL level. Some times it can be learned like Horvat did other times others can't get it.

Speed as well as hustle. He played a very positional style which meant he didn’t skate around a lot chasing. I think the issue with this is coaches want “energy” from their 4th line. His style was similar to Loui Eriksson. But Loui managed to find a niche scoring goals in front of the net, especially on the power play.

I think the answer is pretty simple. Our bottom 6 was to be either veterans or energy guys. A young Beagle/Eriksson/Schaller, even with room to improve and earning under 1 million, just didn’t fit the mould of the team.

In his last call up in 3 games he had 3 points, +3, 4 hits, 54.1% CF, 57% DZS and 61.5% in the face off dot and got sent down. That is basically a flawless stat line for a player to earn a longer look.

Skating issues, isn't a faceoff specialist, low offensive output. Yeah, he totally got unfair treatment.:rolleyes:

Look at the amount of games he played with Vancouver.

And when he was sent back to the AHL, he regressed. I heard he's a good guy, but he wasn't the right fit for the team. The league is so competitive and he has a lot to work on before he's NHL calibre.

It's such a small sample that it's barely worth mentioning. Previous few seasons he showed no signs of improvement in his other game. He's as one-dimensional as you can define a player. 61 percent faceoff is obviously an anomaly. His previous seasons were ~50 percent, which is not really that good for a guy who can't seem to do anything else. At least Malhotra found a niche.

Like I said he was given some of the worst minutes in the NHL and still held his head above water. Better than our expensive vets at least.

it’s a small sample size but the point is he showed well and didn’t get to stick for a longer period of time.

In the season he played the most games he was 51.2% - I think this part of his game could have developed.

what is done is done. Benning did a good job making up for a lot of his past mistakes this off-season and hopefully makes more good decisions moving forward
