Maple Leafs are very proud to get these 3 UFA's locked up. We recently traded for the rights to another UFA (details to be released shortly), and are working to get a deal done with them as well.

Paul Stastny is coming off of a pretty solid season. We know he is a ripe 36 years old, but we feel his veteran leadership around this young core is much needed in the locker room. We see him as a very good 3C on a contending team, and that's the role he will fill over these next 3 seasons as we try and make a push for the holy grail.

As for Benning we are very pleased to have him back, and feel he was pretty solid as a #6 dman last year for us. Girgenson is an unknown commodity for us, as he never played a game for us since we traded for him. We are hoping he can log some solid #s in our bottom 6 over rhe next couple of season's.

Current roster...

Hughes McDavid Raymond

Kane* Kadri XXXXXX

Johnsson Stastny Bordeleau

Vesey Carrick Girgenson

Nurse Hughes

Hughes XXXXXX

Benning Miller

Price

Varlamov

Note:

Going to start making my way through updating cap sheets to reflect your 2022 Draft Picks.

As I do I will change the upper limit of everyone's cap structure to address the $1.0M increase to $82.5M.

TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT

To LAK:

Phillipp Grubauer

To WSH:

Anton Khudobin

2023 CHI 4th

We're very pleased to bring Phillipp to LA, as he will certainly add value to our crease as him and Mackenzie Blackwood battle it out for the top-job.

Last season when Blackwood was hurt we really struggled as an organization to fill the hole left by his absence, so we made bolstering the crease a top priority this season. We thought we had done that by bringing in Chris Driedger at the deadline last year, but his fluke ACL tear at the World Championships left us with that same hole.

We also brought in the RFA rights to Eric Comrie in the past week and hope to have him as an important piece for us should injuries arise. And when Driedger does return then I suppose we'll have a decision to make, but as things currently stand we expect Grubauer and Blackwood to be our NHL tandem to start next season.

Anton Khudobin

2023 CHI 4th

We thank Arby for negotiations and wish Philipp Grubauer the best in LA.

Grubauer has a long history of being a very strong goalie in the NHL but after last season we felt we didn't have the cap space to keep him in hopes of a resurgence this year. We wish him the best moving forward.

Anton Khudobin has proven to be a capable goalie himself when healthy. He is currently in the middle of rehabbing from surgery and our staff will do everything they can to aid him back to full health. He is going to start the season on the IR and we will be patient with him in hopes that he can make a full recovery. If at some point he feels comfortable getting back on the ice and playing games again we look forward to having him in the mix to compete his way back on to the NHL roster. We are hoping he does get to such a point because his presence would only give our organization more strength.

With that being said

Assignment: The Washington Capitals assign Anton Khudobin to the AHL where we will hold his contract until he is IR eligible.

Report:  Question marks still surround Washington Capitals defenseman Ryan Ellis, and his status entering the 2022-23 season.

Ellis recently signed a five-year, $30 million extension to remain with the team until the year 2027.

"He's such an important piece for us on the ice, in the locker room and as a someone that has just played for this team for so long. He's part of the history" stated head coach Jamie Langenbrunner.

Ellis has played his entire career for only the Capitals and clearly is hoping to stay there for the rest of his career.

The questions surrounding him though are when will he be ready to play?

"We're going to let him take his time. We have no doubt about his commitment to this organization and we just want to see him come back at full health. Right now we are unsure about his status for the 2022-23 season but we are going to stay patient and make sure that we give him the opportunity to be the best version of himself for the duration of his contract extension. We wanted to give him the security so he can breathe easy and focus on getting his body right."

After trading RFA Travis Dermott to the LA Kings the Caps have some uncertainty on the blue line heading into Free Agency.

"We'll have to monitor the situation closely. We don't want to offer money that we don't have if Ryan is ready to go but we also need to make sure we have someone ready to log those minutes if he isn't ready to play"

After another strong regular season the Caps fell short in the first round of the playoffs, this time to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

"Obviously, it's frustrating, no doubt" stated centre Mark Scheifele. "We just gotta get our bodies ready and come out next year even more motivated"
