The team is not JB though.  The team is the the group of guys he goes to war with every day. Why would he act in such an “unfriendly” manner towards them? That’s a Petey that I don’t recognize from all I’ve seen and heard.

What is it that gives you this special insight?

His beverage of choice, Haterade, gives him special insight. He gets so drunk on the stuff and then makes baseless comments about how Petey is mad we got rid of Dahlen.

Awesome post my friend.   :-)

Here’s how I see our current roster in a redraft:

2008:  Luke Schenn = 1st round pick 25-30, Tyler Myers and Travis Hamonic = 1st round pick 20-25
2009:  OEL goes 1st round between 10-15 in a redraft

2011: JT Miller goes 1st round between 15-20 in a redraft

2012:  Tanner Pearson goes 1st round Top 20 in a redraft.
2013: Bo Horvat = 1st round pick #5

2014:  Thatcher Demko = 1st round pick = top 15.  Tryamkin, if he returns, is 1st round pick = 25-30

2015:  Boeser = 1st round between 10-12; Conor Garland = 1st round 12-15.

2017:  Pettersson = 1st round 2nd or 3rd overall pick

2018: Hughes = 1st round 3-5 overall pick.

2019: Podkolzin = 1st round 5-8 pick, Hoglander = Top 20-25 1st round pick

Interesting.....so let me fill in the blanks so we get a clearer picture of uncle Jim's drafting and what it's left us with after 8 years;

2014 - One NHL calibre player (Demko) out of all rd's

2015 - One NHL calibre player (BB) out of all rd's

2016 - Nothing of any value picked

2017 - One NHL calibre player (EP40) out of all rd's

2018 - One NHL calibre player (QH) out of all rd's

2019 - One NHL calibre player (Hog) out of all rd's.  Pods is Unproven so far and could end up being another bust like Yo-Levi or Jake "The Ripper" (Hopefully not)

2020 - Not a single player will make the NHL according to hockeys insiders and no 1st or 2nd rd picks as they were given away.

2021 - Not a single player will make the NHL according to hockeys insiders and no 1st or 3rd or 4th rd picks as they were given away.

................so for all the Uncle Jim supporters out there and for those who can't do math, that = 5 NHL calibre players on our team out of 54 picks in 8 long years.  This is the reality of his tenure here and why he must be removed ASAP.  (See the facts/details below)

I’ve unfortunately read many chapters in this continuing saga. Not a page turner.

Each team get 7 picks a year… if EVEN HALF the player made the NHL every year you’d see a ridiculous low average of player staying in the league for long. Players would be in the league for 2-4 and out and replaced. But you know most hockey players aren’t easily replaced.

Of course - you are correct in your assessment but the point I made is that there are only 5 good players reamining on this team (so far - maybe more to come - hopefully) after eight draft years and 54 picks and so the Uncle jim Bandwagon has to look at these FACTS.   Players that woulda, coulda, shoulda been or will be in the future (possibly) are not included in that 5 good player count on our team and for good reason.   But I also agree with your point of view.

You haven't made a single good point since you've been in here, nor have you critically engaged the original post. Dismissing this post as some kind of propaganda, without explaining why is just ignoring evidence.

Given your unhealthy obsession of defending Dahlen, you should be the last person talking about propaganda.

Again, the title of this thread is enough evidence.
A title meant to troll those that don’t think Benning should be a GM for the Canucks.

His beverage of choice, Haterade, gives him special insight. He gets so drunk on the stuff and then makes baseless comments about how Petey is mad we got rid of Dahlen.

Nope, the way Benning handled it.
That Dahlen doesn’t play for the Canucks is just how it goes.

It’s ridiculus to think otherwise.
It’s like Petey should be mad why Växjö didn’t hire Dahlen.

So please, think before you answer.
If you had read what I wrote you should know by now what it’s all about.

Let me fill in the blanks that Gillis left Benning...

You can't really criticize another GM without making another comparison as reference. Gillis was absolutely awful. Benning has done a lot better than him.

image.thumb.png.0ad48d673b4e68482ed9987249120b03.png

As already summarized, Benning brought in through drafting:

Pettersson

Hughes

Demko

Hoglander

Podkolzin (soon to play)

Woo

Rathbone

Dipietro

Gadjovich

Then we have the IIHF prospects that has done well

Viktor Persson (Sweden)

Costmar (Sweden)

Utunen (Finland)

Silovs (Latvia)

There are many others I am missing.

How can you say players drafted less than two weeks ago will certainly not make the NHL and then call it “facts”?

"I" did not say that. The suppossed NHL/TSN insiders made that statement and I would tend to believe they are reasonalbly reliable pundits as I would tend to trust very experienced TSN guys like Craig Button who correctly ranked picks like Jake "The Ripper" (before the 2014 draft) as a 40th pick rather than 6th that Uncle Jim seemed to believe he was - especiallty when all the TSN crew believe that Uncle Jim blew both the 2020 & 2021 drafts, leaving two years of empty shelves that will come back to haunt the canucks especially when guys like OEL is mid contract and floundering due to old age and fans are asking WTF were we thinking in 2021 taking on his long term "golden retirement" contract...just to save Jim's behind from being fired due to poor results for seven years.

So it is all Bennings fault if we draft badly and it is someone elses fault if he drafts well. You said that it is not Benning that drafted him and yet he did because as you said he is the head and at the least listened to someone he hired to do the job for him

I give credit when credit is due.
Inge Hammarström opened the eyes of this organisation and Benning made the final decision.
Benning could have gone another route and skipped Petey so Benning was very important.

Do you know what objectivity means?

I’ve seen a lot of positive moves this season primarerly but also last season with Benning as GM.

Moves that might lead very far into play offs.

That is objectivity.
But that doesn’t mean I close my eyes when he makes mistakes.
Also objectivity…. Might be useful to try some objectivity.

Timrafan is a huge defender of Dahlen, to the extent that he's willing to warp evidence to protect his master. I'm not even joking.

Dahlen had a huge opportunity to play in the NHL. He thought he was NHL ready. However, his coaches (such as Green) did not. As a result, a conflict brewed, which Benning remarked that there were some young players who felt entitled to step into the NHL. Anyway, Dahlen demanded a trade mid-season in the AHL, at least according to Benning who was ALSO the same GM who acquired Dahlen in the first place. JP Barry was non-committal on the issue, and Dahlen, as expected, denied that he requested one. I think we can read between the lines.

Anyway, Timrafan criticized the North American coaches as "neanderthal", and made excuses for Dahlen. He was never at fault, of course, but was mistreated. During this time, Dahlen went over to San Jose, who was struggling at this time. However, they also felt Dahlen wasn't ready, so he got sent down to the AHL, where he played it out until he fled back to Sweden. Dahlen played for another 2 years or so on the same tier team as when he started. Anyway, he has re-signed with SJ on a one year contract, I believe, so if he can't make the SJ roster, that is on him.

Just because Timrafan doesn't like reality doesn't mean Dahlen is infallible.

They are neanderthal… How many allegations against coaches in AHL and NHL has seen the light the last years?
It’s a sign of players turn coach and are stuck in old times.

I remember you using this same language when defending Dahlen.

Objectivity isn't about choosing when you want to use logic and when not to use it.

Talk about much ado for nothing.

Nothing about how Benning did in Boston before 2014.

Nothing about who was scouts.

I know that Benning wasn’t the reason we got our eyes on Petey.

Nothing about how our ”small” stars will handle a real play off situation.

Just because you only praise Benning.

Why?

It’s a team work so you should take all aspects in your analysis.

If I get paid by the Canuck organisation I can easily get a report that have all aspects covered with interviews with all scouts and owner.

So please… Stop with the building of cult around Benning.

Maybe post counter facts with some of your own research if you are gonna rebuttal a post that has had so much of that exact thing put into it

First off, if you read the entire post, you’d see that I have already laid out a clear picture of how our Uncle Jim has done at the draft table compared to the entire league.

Secondly 1 NHL calibre player in each draft in different positions is so much more than almost every single NHL team in the league, and JB has covered all bases, wingers, centres, defence and goaltending where as almost every other organization is either stacked up front, or has a couple on the back end.

I have also laid out, very early in my OP that our drafting the past 7 years has been better than any other GM we have had the past 20 years. Bennings success rate is the 3rd highest in the league.

Also just a little math for you a 2021 NHL draft pick cannot play in the 2020-21 season so counting the 2021 draft picks in your calculations of 5 NHL players out of 54 is inaccurate. Its actually 48 players so 5/48= 10.4% of draft picks will be an NHLer compared to Torontos 4/60 which is 6.7% or Edmontons 4/45 which is 8.8%

And I will just say this once again JB has drafted players who have become NHL players. Toronto and Edmontons 4 players are the only 4 players to turn into NHL players since 2014. Benning had drafted 9 players who have actually become NHL players

Forsling, Demko, McCann, Virtanen, Boeser, Gaudette, Pettersson, Hughes and Hoglander 9/48 is 18.75% without including Lind who is in Seattle, Rathbone who is getting a shot with Vancouver, Juolevi, Gadjovich, Podkolzin, Klimovich, Lockwood, DiPietro…. Thats 9 more players who have a legitimate shot to make the NHL, so if 20% of those picks become an NHLer next year thats 11 players in 7 years. 11/48=22.9% and if 1/5 of the 2020 and 2021 players become NHLers by the success rate that Benning is having he will have another 2 players become NHLers.

Podz, Juolevi, Lockwood, Gadjovich, Klimovich, Rathbone all have an opportunity to become an NHLer this upcoming season.  Soooo like no, JB should not be going anywhere anytime soon. He is drafting well above most of the league.

Also Jackson Kunz a 2020 draft pick had an exceptional year last year and isnt out of the realm of possibility to be an NHLer.

Go look at Detroit and Buffalo who have drafted higher than Vancouver for longer and have less to show.
