I was going to say.... Vancouver media has some of the most unfortunate looking people.. I guess that's why they only have negative takes

Oh come on Jeff, we all figured you'd be able to take a joke by now.

What's a joke to you can be hurtful to others.

You're taught this in elementary school, I believe.

It's very possible he reads this board.

I know people here for the most part aren't a big fan of his takes and coverage but it's just a sport.

Its going to be the best Season in Canucks history.

wheres the holes in the line up?
Pk D ? the PK forwards look super solid. Righty D? They just gotta be shut down homers and Leftside will carry the offense. The Forwards group looks good all holes filled for the classic 1st ,2nd offense lines , 3nd checking line , 4th grinding line. Goalies look good to me.

im ExCiTEd about this Season.

Go Canucks Go

people also used to be taught "sticks and stones" in elementary school.

I couldn't imagine making the choice to allow someone else to hurt me with words.

Pattersson being optimistic? Hell had truly frozen over.

He's a professional jouranlist, not a paid cheerleader. He has contacts, he seeks the facts and that's good enough for me. However ...... some posters are estranged from the facts, which IMO just means they can't handle the truth which is truly sad and some thing they will eventually grow out of .... we hope :)

Errrr, no, what we want are the facts so we may judge ourselves

He gave us his opinion of what he thinks will happen this season. His opinion is usually slanted to the negative.

Are you saying that our media should no longer give opinions and only report facts?

Ok a Fact

Podkolzin , Hoglander, Rathbone all on cheap entry level contracts. This Team needs to win this or next, then Canucks will have to trade core pieces of the team to be Under the Cap.

Facts sux

CANUCK NEED TO WIN NOW

Go Canucks Go

Not incorrect; not the whole story either!  Best player for the role available is a more honest description. IMO he has to beat OEL or Hughes for top 6 minutes. Will that happen?

Dallas, for example, could have 6'4'' Jamie Benn & 6'3'' Dennis Gurianov on its second line? Winnipeg will have 6'5'' Dave Lowry, 6'4'' Pierre Luc Dubois. LA

Vancouver may not be able to compete if we have 200lb Larsson, 185lb Hughes & we compliment that with 190lb Rathbone.  And we will certainly need two of the three killing penalties. Also not a role suited to Jack. Do we want Hughes blocking shots? We have to fill out a roster that has at least one  LHD strong enough to handle Matthew Tkachuk, Alex Tuch, Timo Meier, etc.. I dont disagree Jack Rathbone looks pretty exciting. We have to have a line up prepared for all match ups.

It simply means we may not have the right role to throw him in to...

No I do not believe Rathbone will beat out OEL. That was the inference.

I agree with you here, they need more size than Rathbone has to offer on the back end, and OJ is that guy.  You're being generous with your weight numbers, but maybe that's from the team website which always fudges.  I've see photos of a shirtless QH, if he's 185, then I'm Ben Affleck.  He's more like 165-170 tops.  The Canucks will have to kill penalties, and OJ showed in his cup of coffee with the big club, before Covid ended his season, that he could block shots, play the body, and was solid on the PK.  He also showed an excellent first pass, good vision, a quality shot, and most importantly excellent hockey IQ.  I anticipate that he'll be left side on either PK1 or PK2.  QH has become an offensive specialist and a serious defensive liability, so he's not the guy you want on the ice protecting a lead late, matching up against other teams top lines, or on the PK.  What's blocking Rathbone from making the team is QH not OJ, since Rathbone and QH currently play basically the same role.  I expect Rathbone to start in Abby and prove that he can excel in all roles, PK, matchup and PP.  I expect that OJ will be our new, more mobile Edler, and barring injury, he'll be here long-term.  If Rathbone excels in Abby, that could make QH pretty tempting trade bait to a team like NJ, who would probably give up a top prospect and a first for him in order to unite the Hughes brothers.

I still see us trading, a prospect or otherwise, for a more significant D still this season.

I am more bullish on our forward group & overall improvement in athleticism. I don't believe we have a contending D.

Is OEL better than Edler? Probably but we also lost Schmidt.  Nate did not play great for us? I was not unhappy moving him. It is still a lot for us to ask Poolman to be the guy Schmidt was in Washington & Vegas. Probably OEL is better than Edler but we have a distinct lack in size, capacity to joust with heavyweights.  Thats not OEL, Poolman, and certainly not Rathbone. Its a work in progress, not a finished D core.

Funny enough; I always, always thought we would move one of Alex Edler this off season. Never both.

Maybe we'll trade Rathbone if he's all that?

Nonsense, we just need the prospects (Podkolzin, Hoglander, Rathbone, Woo, MDP etc) to come in and replace veteran ones (Miller, Pearson, Hamonic, Halak etc) on ELC and bridge deals, and another layer of support prospects (McDonagh, Gadjovich, Klimovich, Lockwood etc) to replace them, in their current depth roles, as they advance up the roster.

Until the core starts to age out anyway.

True but Hockey Harry is right about one thing - core players are starting to age out now, not so much at all their play, just that they are close to their legacy deals and for sure will take them.   Horvat for sure will be up for a raise, Miller too.   Maybe that's 3 million and we can squeeze them in...maybe it's more like 5 and well that's getting hard to keep.

Our Miller/Horvat window is right now...what we get later still does, like you just said, depend on what's coming up.   Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to recycle Miller after this season, or if it's a train wreck, at the TDL.    Our D isn't done yet.

Edit:   I think it will be closer to 3 then 5 (1.5 each) ... so there is a world where we could keep them both.   Not sure it's the right thing to do.    We'd have to pass up on Hogs or someone to make it work.   I also see our window as opening now, and staying open for as long as EP/QHs and maybe Podz are around....so no panic either just the process.

Well, as I noted in my post, guys like Miller (or Myers, Pearson, Hamonic, Halak etc) aren't probably here much longer, as Hoglander/Podkolzin (and others) eventually eat up his (their) ice time and cap space. IMO Horvat isn't going anywhere for a good while yet. He's here for another +/-8 years IMO.

Miller, IMO, isn't a 'core' guy. REALLY good support player.

So long as we can continue to hit on late first and later round picks to cycle in to the depth roles they, or their replacements, will be vacating, we'll be fine for the +/- 10 years that this core should still be competitive.
