Messier...

Hate him all you want and we all do but his numbers speak for themself.

Otherwise it's Luongo/Bertuzzi all day long

Don't care what anyone saids but he was never a Canuck.

I voted Bert. But, wait, I also voted Linden as greatest Canuck ever. Bert was most dominant season-by-season, whereas Linden had duration in his favor. Does that even make sense? Is it even true? Do I even need to justify myself? Can't I just accept that both are freakin' legends? So many questions, so little time (to waste when I should be doing other things).

I feel like this question almost becomes dependent on who else you have on the team.

If you need an upgrade in net, Luongo or Kirk, neither are bad options.  Even prime Cloutier was pretty good, tho he's not beating Lu or Kirk.

If you need defence, Bieksa in his prime was very good, as was Jovo.

If you need a power winger, prime Bertuzzi was dominant.

And then there's Trevor Linden...  self explanatory.

If you're going with just the players prime and not only time in Vancouver, you have to respect Messier's results all time, even tho he was hot garbage in Vancouver.

And then there's the players that I don't remember seeing, like Kurtenbach, Williams or Tanti, who maybe I just, don't know enough about.

I'm going with Linden, because of course I am.  But there's lots of really good choices here.

Luongo. Greatest goaltender in Canuck history.

Owns virtually all the Canuck goalie records AND has the following dominant NHL rankings for goalies:

- the 4th most winning goalie

- 9th best save percentage

- 9th most shut outs

- 3rd most all time minute played

Was instrumental in winning the 2010 Gold Olympics.

Took the Canucks to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2011.

Was a key part in 2014 Olympic gold victory.

This is a no brainer. Greatest Canadian in his prime while a Canuck.

The 2006-2007 Luongo was up there with the greatest goalies of all-time.  Luongo almost singlehandedly carried us over Dallas in the first round that year.  Even at the start of the 2008-2009 season, Luongo was turning into a juggernaut and rattled off like 4-5 shut outs or something.  Prime Luongo was an absolute beast and its a damn shame that the 2009 playoffs destroyed Luongo’s head.

Despite what the statistics say, Luongo was never quite the same goalie after that.  Luongo could have and should have been our generation’s version of Dominik Hasek but became known as this generation’s version of Curtis Joseph instead.  Still “very very good,” but just not elite.

But yeah, 2006-2009 Luongo was absolutely unreal.

Wow this was tougher then i thought.   But Linden still wins.   Luongo ... he has four great series ... Linden has a great series as an 18 year old and just never stopped having great series until we traded him.   Even then he had one more in the tank, as a bottom guy, when Luongo had his best series ever vs Turco.     Bertuzzi ... well please educate me on the "great series " he had.   In the regular season, Linden also had some very good years not as great as Bertuzzi's best - but as far as careers go, Linden was still better - during the regular season.   In the post season, nobody did as much for the team, including the Sedins, Naslund, Bertuzzi and Luongo, as Linden did.

Edit:  If it's just regular seasons ... then Luongo i guess wins.

Well in the parameters described, at his best (clearly not with Vancouver) Messier is probably the best player to play for this team.  Oh, I do feel dirty saying it.

my first thought was Luongo, especially since i grew up watching him, but i hear stories about the dedication and heart Trevor Linden had, so I'm going with Linden. there are some really tough choices to make in this one!

Trevor Linden is my favourite Canuck player of all time but at their peaks Bertuzzi was still the better right winger.
