Juolevi not even practicing with the full lineup. Rathbone is with Schenn and Hunt is with Burroughs.

Looks like Juolevi is on his way out.

Maybe they already know what they have in Juolevi and giving the other 2 as much time with pairings as possible. He's had a very good camp defensively and PK which what they need more then another offensive D man right now. Hughes, OEL and Myers have us covered pretty well

Pearson gets way too much flak on these boards. Especially for a 20 g 45 pt player with some grit.

Pearson does get too much flak.

But he has hit 20 goals and ~45 points twice in his NHL career.

That’s the trouble with him, he is offensively streaky and hit and miss from year to year.

Great 3rd liner, but we have better 2nd line offensive options now.

And how does someone become more than just a 4th liner at best?

By paying their dues, improving their abilities/skill set, and taking on a leadership role while protecting teammates, all at 22 years old.

Some are upset about it because no one has seen his realized potential yet. He’s earned at least a shot in most people’s eyes. Sure he could be end up in the same category as a ZacMac where ppl expect more than what is there, and end up letting themselves down, but JG’s potential (for Nux fans) remains untapped or tested as of yet.
And don’t forget, it’s the fans who always want to be the true judge of a player, haha

I meant from what I saw so far this preseason/camp.

How does someone become more than just a 4th liner at best? uhh idk, how about having the chance to develop more? kind of obvious.

The fans want to be the true judge of player? Pretty ironic, the coaching staff and management "judged" him and decided he was expendable enough that they were willing to put him on the waiver wire to send him down.

I would much rather have him than Petan or Di Giuseppe remaining on the team but obviously management sees him differently.

Who knows? He'll probably clear waivers and remain Canucks property and he'll be able to get better and better.

Honestly speaking, I think he has done enough to earn a roster spot at least but it's not the end of the world if he doesn't make the team.

This fanbase always overreacts every time a roster move is made.

That’s what they were saying about Gadjovich and he’s now on waivers.

If he’s not even practicing with the top 8 at this point with only 2 preseason games left then that tells me he’s gonna be waived.

I agree with you bu I think it’s kind of hard to gauge right out of camp. You’re being assigned random linemates, getting back up to speed, and learning or experimenting with new systems. Even some of the vets seem to need a couple days to get their form back.

I’m hoping he clears and after a couple months in Abbotsford he’s still ripping up the A so that his ascent to the big club for a real shot is a certainty.
His one of few AHL prospects we have who’s progression has been solid and absolutely trending straight upwards. I guess that’s why it’s a head scratcher he’s bumped over some other guys.

That said, navigating the waiver game is part of asset management so likely the move was made out of precaution and timing.

I think MacEwen has to be on the team. For the lineup above the best forward fighters on the team are Horvat, Miller, and Podzolkin, none should be dropping the gloves regularly.

nobody in the NHL drops the gloves regularly anymore.

there are no longer roster spots available for fighters, especially not ones as bad at it as macewen.

he's scored 24 goals per 82 games as a canuck, and that's all that really matters as far as I'm concerned.

Try telling that to Darryl Sutter, how else do you explain Erik Gudbranson still in the NHL...

because often the person in the dressing room is more important than the player on the ice.

I just don't understand what Focht, Petan, Dowling, Chiasson, Dries, Highmore. McEwan has done better than Gadj for them to all still be up here over him.

If it was between Lockwood and Gadj, I'd understand...

Or

Maybe they know this spot will go to Bailey so they are trying to sneak him down?

Bailey is still here and hasn't played at all... I liked him from last season.

I can see him make the team over all those other guys

So that means he isn’t a streaky offensive player?

You can package up stats to support your theory any way you like no matter what side of the argument you fall on. You have to dive deeper though to really determine someone’s consistency in offensive production. There are lots of specifics to look at.

How many of those are empty net goals? What kind of goal scoring droughts in numbers of games does he go through? Does he score points in bunches then nothing for several games?

That type of stuff.

Pearson has had 2 of his worst offensive seasons overall with the Canucks. And his statistically best one in between them. Averaging it out doesn’t = being consistent though.

Although fighting is down in recent years, it is still a part of the game and one of the main deterrents for cheap shots on your star players.
