Trade him for a first rounder (+ prospect since Miller's value has gone up since) in the off season, then flip the first for a value player that fills the role (i.e., Blake Coleman). But this might be hard to pull off. As EP, QH, Pod, Hog, and even Boeser will get better in the next little while and we could seriously contend for the cup. We should keep Miller for the playoff run even if it means losing him for nothing in the free agency. And who knows? He might sign at a discount to play here. He might do that if he likes the team and the role that he is given. Or we could even dump another contract, say Myers and find a way to re-sign all of Miller, Horvat, and Boeser. As it stands, each of them will need about 1.5-2.5 mil increase in their next contracts so that adds up to about 6 mil = Myers salary. Luongo's cap recapture comes off as well and that's gotta help somehow too. We're talking about JB here. Miller is going to walk to UFA

If you look at their respective career stats they are almost identical in every category. Yes, the individual point totals are higher for Brayden but it's not exactly Peteys fault that Brayden is over two and a half years older and has, therefore, played 2 more seasons. As I mentioned in a previous post, Brayden had a great contract year when his ELC was up and put up 92 points, with the best winger in the NHL at his side, but his is P/GP has gone down in each of the two seasons since and yet TB still signed Brayden to an 8 year, $9.5 million extension. In fact, in the 2019-20 season Brayden had 64 points in 66 games compared to Peteys 66 points in 68 games. And as far as Petey Vs. Point or Petey Vs. Barzal are compared don't forget that Barzal's bridge contract ($7 × 3) was considered as a direct comparable to Point's ($6.75 × 3). Barzal got a slightly larger number because the Cap increased but percentage wise they were almost exactly the same. My point is that, like it or not, Point is a direct comparable to Petey. If you go for a bridge he gets a very similar bridge to Point/Barzal and if you go long term it's going to have to look very similar to Point's. Point has been a Selke candidate since his sophomore year. He has one of the best takeaway/giveaway ratio in the league. Offensively they’re pretty much on par, but defensively he’s head and shoulders above Pettersson.
GB5
Deal or no deal yet? I'm getting impatient but better late than a bad deal I suppose. Hopefully we get some news that there is movement and talks because it has been very quiet recently

Well aware we wont trade JT if we are in the hunt but if we don't retain him it would suck to lose the asset. Our prospect cupboard is quite empty and we have traded lots of picks, this is on the GM...he could be gone after this year if we don't make the post season The problem with our prospect pool is the fact that Hoglander, Podkolzin and Rathbone are good enough to play in the NHL this year. I know we're all enamored with young players and draft picks, but you can only ice a team so young. We can't have a full team of 20-25 year olds, it just doesn't work that way. As it stands, we are going to have 10 out of 23 players be in that 25 and under range... plus another 3 who are 26. I think it's important that we get back to drafting in the 1st round next year, but we have lots of lottery tickets playing in Europe and the NCAA. This was an awesome summer of moves. If the team doesn't make the post-season, it's either really bad luck (injuries) or the team not doing their part (players and coaches). The Canucks have a lot of young talent that needed some role and depth players to seize the opportunity to let the core succeed. Missing a couple of years of high end draft picks is perfectly fine at this stage of the team build cycle, but it will be important to keep those picks in the coming 2-5 years.

Also EP blocks more shots than Point. sure EP have more giveaway than point but given Canucks playstyle over the years like to sit back and defend style that's bound to happen. Especially with EP having the puck a lot more than point. playmaker in general will have more giveaway than others.. since if they make a pass and their teammate bobbles or miss it it's a giveaway for them. look at how many giveaway mcdavid have each year? 1

And back-to-back Stanley cups... hard to beat that. Yes, the team was stacked but Point was possibly the best player on that team, on par, maybe even ahead of Kucherov. Hate to admit it but Petey isn't close to Point. Point's 9.5 mil in TB is probably equivalent to 11 mil in other cities.

If he were above average defensively, he would have at least gotten some homer votes. Horvat, who people on here say, is our best defensive forward. Hasn’t even gotten a single Selke vote, ever. The year he was 8th in voting. he beat some very exceptional Selke candidates/winners (Toews, Marchand, Stone, O’Reilly). Stone was 22nd in voting that year, and the following year was runner up. There’s a good chance Point could very well win a Selke within the next 5 years. Edited September 18, 2021 by shiznak

Guest
Guys, Point is so far ahead of almost everyone in the league, it's not even funny. This discussion is telling me that you guys only watch the Canucks games and not the rest of the league. What Point has done in the last two seasons especially in the playoffs has been nothing short of amazing. @204CanucksFan I read your comment again and I see that you're comparing Point coming off his ELC (few years ago now) to Petey, and that's a decent comparison. EP can prolly replicate something close to Point's success playing on tampa team. dunno if the same can be said about Point playing on Vancouver. the 2 team is simply not comparable one is at the top, one is near the bottom. Point is in a good situation with a vezina goalie a norris defenseman art ross and hart trophy winner. I was only counting the main players that should make the opening night roster on the Canucks. We have lots of young players that will end up playing a handful of games this year. Brayden Point just put up back to back 14 goal postseasons and won two cups. I have high hopes for Petey, but his high mark in his career is what, 67 points? In terms of what he's proven, it's really not much. His PPG in our playoff run 2 years ago was probably the most impressive for me. I'm just saying that you can't even compare the two today in terms of what they've each proven in the league. Petey has to prove that he can be the number 1 center on a contender, not on a weak non-playoff team.
