I would think so.

I guess its the Hughes deal thats holding things up? but if so why not sign Petey? I hate that they have the same agent, they don't give a crap about the fans paying the freight.

Hughes isn't offer-sheet eligible so they don't really need to wait on him to sign Pettersson.  They can find some 18M till the start of the season.  After it gets trickier because of Ferland.

thats why its a bit odd... with Petey in town I'd guess things would be close on his deal.

I love Pettersson but Point helped lead his team to two Stanley Cups before he was rewarded with that contract. To me that means that Petey has to come in below that.

While I agree Point is the more accomplished and more well rounded player, I think it's hard to directly compare the two in terms of contracts given Tampa has much better taxes than we do here.

Might prefer to continue his preparation in Vancouver.  He stayed in Vancouver for most of the off-season a year ago.  His off-season training partners have probably returned back to their teams - hockey season is underway in Europe and NHL camp is next week.

I wonder if QH is here. I can see him holding out for every bit he can. Not so sure his heart is fully with the team, especially considering his 2 brothers and family in the US East Coast.

I heard yesterday he's still in Michigan.

The only reason I brought it up is that some are using Point as a comparable while ignoring certain aspects such as two way play and the Cups. Even with the tax difference, I don't think Petey should get over 9 million on a longer term. He should be around 7 million on a bridge.

Well the comparison makes even less sense cause Point didn't get a bridge. So if we're talking bridge, yes a 7mil contract would be really ideal. As long as we retain RFA rights after. None of this Matthews/Aho 5 year deal nonsense.

Every darn player has family.   This obsession to have players that should be together because they are blood is silly.   Why'd we even bother drafting him then?  Jack was more hyped then QHs before QHs was even drafted.   EP is signed - it's almost a certainty.   QHs is a lot tougher nut to crack - zero to do with his brothers.    Not part of the process - or the negotiations. QHs has good teammates and a support in place for him in Vancouver.    Just like every player no matter where they are drafted.

No he did get a bridge.  He signed a 3 year, 6.75 mil/year deal.  His next big deal kicks in next season.

The whole reason that @204CanucksFan brought up Point was because he was comparing Brayden from two years ago to Elias today.  I get it, it's not a bad comparison but it should be noted that it took Brayden being pretty much in the top 4 forwards in the league with Kucherov, MacDavid, and Draisaitl to earn a 9.5 million contract.

There's just no way that Elias deserves to be getting anything over 8 million, unless it's a 6-8 year deal.  That's using Brayden Point as a comparable.

I'm sorry, but for me I want to see our two stars coming under 16 million and over at least 9 years combined.  If we spend more or get less years from them then I'll be shifting myself into not caring for these two as much.  We're never going to win with this core if they are all of the same attitude that they want to squeeze the team for as much money as possible.

On another note, the most ludicrous idea that I've heard here was someone mentioning that Canucks should trade a player out to make more cap space.  That is the most ludicrous idea I've ever heard, and it would pretty much make sure that the rest of the team despises the two stars that forced some other well-liked teammate out of the team so that they can squeeze out a few more dollars.
