I am not actually advocating for trading or letting Miller walk, just don’t know enough about what our situation will be by that point.

I was just pointing out the cap considerations and that all our most efficient contracts are coming up for renewal in the next little bit.  As they roll into market rate deals, we will need to make choices and ensure we still have a pipeline of prospects who are capable of coming in and playing in the top of the lineup for cheap.

Most of our prospects now project to be bottom of the lineup (because all the top ones have graduated to the NHL).  Those spots can be filled either by young guys or veterans looking to extend their careers like you mentioned with Staal/Perry types.

We took a huge step getting rid of bad value contracts, it just put a two year hole in the prospect pipeline to do so.

We have enough guys with at least middle 6 (+ 'who knows') ceilings to fill in behind guys like Podkolzin, Hoglander etc as they become permanent top 6 fixtures. We really only need a couple of those guys to hit and we will continue to draft guys to eventually replace even those replacements if need be.

Miller, Myers, Hamonic, Luongo, Ferland... They all come off in the next few years. We'll be fine for like the next 8-12 years so long a Benning and company can keep cycling in drafted guys in our middle and bottom 6, with the odd guy here and there punching above his weight.

I'm quite sure, with Petey here in town now, he'll be pretty anxious to get out there on the ice...especially to meet some of his new teammates.

I'd say this happens sooner rather than later.  I know there are "complicated" details they're working out, but it's nice to know that the conversation for both Quinn and Petey can be had together and it's not a matter of having to discuss them with different agents.  Brisson knows the picture and it's about figuring out how best to get both done.

I just learned Hughes' Dad works for Brisson.

It is that or give up another first rounder to try to convince someone to take Myers.

Seattle would take Myers in a heartbeat ..... in one fell swoop the average height of their D-men would go up from 6'4" to 6'5"  making them the tallest D corps in the league!!

So conversely 7M shouldn't be outside reasonable value for 3 seasons.

I fail to see your point. If you're trying to provide reasoning as to why we should fret between 7.5 and 8, you haven't done so at all.

I will however say there comes a point when you can lower that value down and down to the point of being unrealistic. Ultimately, the value that happens in the end is going to be the value that happens in the end. If you expect 7mil and it becomes 8 instead, then clearly what you deem as being "reasonable value" might not have got them signed. Personally, I don't know what the number will be, but I think there's been a bunch of silly banter over what the value should be when ultimately, it's better to have them signed than not signed at all.

For example purposes.

A bridge deal at 7 million could look something llike

$6,250,000

$7,000,000

7,725,000

A longer term could add something like

$9,000,000

$9,000,000

$10,000,000

$10,000,000

$10,000,000

That would be a AAV cap hit of

$8,725,000

We are also in a hockey mad market so they would get sponsorship deals as well which would add to their income.

I'm not sure why people keep getting offended on Petey's and Quinn's behalf. We want a Cup. They should as well. Reasonable deals would help to that end and that's why many of us are hoping for them to sign reasonable deals.

I buggered up on my mathing. It would $8,625,000 I guess that  extra $800,000 could be added to the bridge to make it more palatable.

147 pages and still no sign of any new contracts.  Petey trolling the fans saying he is in Vancouver and posting pictures of that, but when you check Petey's Instagram today those pictures are gone...

Hughes is still in Michigan.  What the heck is going on?  :frantic:

It was an instagram story, not a post. If Petey doesn't archive the story it disappears after 24 hours

I say Hughes signs before training camp starts, Pettersson doesn't get done until training camp is already well underway. He might even miss camp entirely.

Signing Hughes first puts Canucks in danger of a Pettersson offer sheet. They either get signed together or Petey has to go first.
