The fact he isn't signed yet.  I highly doubt he's getting lowballed, and refusing to report to camp because the team won't overpay him is unacceptable.

I love how your opinions of "lowballed" and "overpay" are somehow the defacto definitions. I kinda feel like, since it's his life, his views on the matter are a little more relevant and informed than yours.

next time you're holding out for a raise, I'll be there screaming at your boss to replace you because I want my filet o' fish right NOW goddammit!

that touchy Vancouver persecution complex is showing.

the Canucks were last place in a bad division last year. there is literally no other way to describe them other than as one of the worst teams in the league.

No denying that, but the simple fact is that Jack is seriously underperforming on a worse team. Should just be focusing on his own play in his contract year instead of chirping other teams.

Context matters. What about the year previous? Last year was a disaster and everyone knows it. We are not that bad, we are middle of the pack in the league

I would consider Benning's definition to be more relevant than Hughes, and you'd look even stupider asking for food at my work than you did in that post.

That being said, I don't hang my colleagues out to dry if I think I deserve a raise.

But we were ahead of his team....so maybe he should focus there?

In a bad division.  So that counts, right?  How about:  no Petey for a good duration, COVID that depleted the team just as they finished the worst scheduling in NHL history and should have had a bit of a reprieve?

Funny how that stuff gets ignored but the "bad division" is a factor.  There's no complex here....it's being assigned to us by those who really try hard to make Vancouver something it's (we're) not.  We can dish it out as well as take it.  Seems fair.

Not touchy.....just realistic.  Jack's in NO position to be slamming our team until he helps his team pick their socks up.

The year before that last place finish?  I guess that gets ignored or also excused "because".   When we're good....we're lucky.  When we're bad...doesn't matter the hand we're dealt.

speaking of context, go listen to his interview instead of looking at some blown up clickbait words.

he answered a question honestly and accurately. he's not going out of his way to call out Vancouver, and his own performance is completely irrelevant to the subject.

I did listen to it...my opinion won't change.  And yours is also just that.

He's irrelevant to Quinn's contract talks....once he dives in, he's fair game.    I'm just answering honestly.....

I don't see how it's offside to explain that his brother got a lot of minuses last year because he was playing for one of the worst teams in the league. it's an honest statement of fact. it wasn't a comment on the team the year before, or the team next year, or the organization, or the people in Vancouver. and whether jack hughes was a healthy scratch all season long or he won the hart trophy, it doesn't change the accuracy of his statement.

we don't need to be defensive. we're not being attacked.

it's like if you said to a flames fan, "man, you guys aren't having such a great offseason, hey?" and they respond with, "yeah well at least we won a cup in 1989, the Canucks have never even won!"

you'd think they're pretty dumb, right?

Oh, so you accept that as a "reason" (excuse) for Quinn.

But, you don't accept reasons WHY the Canucks were bad?  Again:  no Petey for a duration.  COVID.  Worst schedule ever.  Maybe Quinn was even a little part of that reason because his defensive play needs work?

Apply that same fairness to both sides.  If you're going to talk about the Canucks being the worst, at least consider why, last year, that happened.  And the year before?  When we took out two tough opponents and nearly got through Vegas?  That gets missed in the conversations.

Love Quinn....but I'm already over this stuff.  His brother can answer honestly but I'm not sure he did.

I love that brothers defend one another...but it can be done tactfully.  This was anything but.

Not a big deal....but take a swing at our team and it seems only fair we get to fight back.

He’s hired an agent to get him the maximum amount.he’s not obligated to take a discount nor should he.

lowballed or overpayment  “it’s a business”

It’s 100% on Jb if he can’t get his young core of superstars signed.

that said I still think both will be resigned before camp. Jb has to much at stake this season to leave either off his roster.
It would be A PR nightmare this franchise can’t afford.

I think the thing for me is this:  I love our young superstars...but there is the reality of a cap and, despite the reasons "why" it's a concern...it is.

Many players take a bit of a discount BECAUSE they want to win and it allows other key players to remain in place.  And it shows a team first mentality.

Should they have to?  No.  Is this a business where you should take care of your own interests?  Sure.

But there's a happy medium and if you're shooting for the stars while also shooting your team in the foot, it matters.  Not that it's the case...but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I'm already over this...it's becoming a huge distraction and we have some exciting players in the mix who we really should be focusing on.  This is their time to shine (too).   It can't get done soon enough for me.  Over it (all).
