Based on my calculations we have about $20,089,000 to sign Hughes, Petey, Dickinson, and Juolevi.

Petey 8.5 x 7

Hughes 7.5 x 7

Dickinson 2.5 X 3

Juolevi 1.5 X 2

Or could do Petey 9 and Hughes 7 depending on value of position.

I have a sense the Petey and Hughes numbers will be for bridge contracts.

It is a bit of a dangerous game spending all the cap on filler players before getting this work done.

I guess they can make sure to sign Petterson first now because he could get an offer sheet and make sure the agent knows there is only so much money available, so the more Petterson gets, the less Hughes gets... it is just math at this point.

If Petterson actually did sign a big offer sheet and we matched, that means REALLY putting the screws to Hughes who has no leverage because of his status.  He signs or he sits.

JB has done a remarkable job turning this team's cap around. I don't know exactly how much, but he's somehow freed up something crazy like 20M in cap space this off-season. Now he's got 16.3M to play with:

Pettersson - 7M x 4 years

Hughes - 5.5M x 3 years (give him an opportunity to earn a bigger contract)

Dickinson - 2M x 4 years

Juolevi - 1M x 1-2 years

Gives us a 1M buffer to pad some of the contracts with if they want to.

What team has wnough money to even offer sheet petey anymore. Seattle spent a lot today. Who else can besides arizona and buffalo?

Thats just it. He played chicken and didn't flinch.

I could see Peteys agent seeding a story about an offer sheet in order to create a panic in the media (it worked) in order to push the value up.

Yeah i just dont know what team can even do it. Not many teams have 10.5 mill laying around for a Petey offer sheet. U know for a fact he aint signing a offer from buffalo lmao

LOL. Absolutely. Ranger and Canadiens were the 2 rumoured, they do not have the space now.

Time to lock Petey up for 8 years. Go 8x8!

I suspect what they've been offered by Petey's agent has looked very close to what an offer sheet would be anyway, so not much risk in waiting.

It carries some risk, but I'm glad Jim didn't sit on his hands waiting to change the team while these deals are in negotiation.
