I have been in the IT industry for over 30 years now - you never ever do a change without a back out plan. If their changed caused this - they should have backed out. Correct, most are not. HOWEVER: If someone reads fake news, and decides to "buy it", they forward it (IE read it on twitter themselves or make it up), post it elsewhere, then maybe two or three more buy it. And so on. And you get viral fake news, which by way of impact by propagation gains 'traction' as far as how "true" it is - "Look how many people think this is true, it must be true!" Not saying this particular instance will or does result in that. But it's how it spreads. So I am the change I wish to see in the world, I 'cancel fake news' and all that when I see it. I don't chase down the internet yelling FAKE NEWS - but if I cross paths with it, I will highlight the idiocy of it, and usually anything with weasel words.
