Well deserved considering the massive discount that Barkov was playing at all these years.

Having said that, I question as to how long Florida can remain a powerhouse for.  Sure, they’ll have a good team this year, but they now have a combined 20 million committed to both Barkov and Bobrovsky.  The Panthers could end up being the next Toronto Maple Leafs and that’s not a complement.  Cost controlled elite talent + depth = championships.

Never understood that signing.... way too much. Then they draft spencer knight? Who looks well on his way to being a quality starter and will probably take over the number one role this year. That bob contract is brutal and untouchable.

To be honest, I’ve never understood 10 million dollar cap hits in general in terms of fielding a winning team.  I get that superstar players that won cups and took initial discounts in order to help their teams deserve a big raise, but I’ve yet to see a 10 million dollar cap hit player (at a relatively high C.H. Percentage) deliver for their teams.

-Chicago and LA fell off a cliff once Toews, Kane, and Kopitar received their “thank you” deals.

-The Leafs have pretty much screwed themselves with their contracts to Marner, Matthews, and Tavares.

-San Jose fell off a Cliff when they signed Erik Karlsson

-The Oilers and the mighty Connor McDavid have only gotten past the 1st round one time.

-Eichel and the Sabres have done nothing.

-Carey Price hasn’t won a cup with the Habs (thanks King Heffy).

What we should have signed EP for.

I like the way Benning handled things.  A three year deal will not only allow for Petey to prove that he’s worth that money (ie staying healthy), but three years might allow the NHL to recover financially from Covid, which can allow for the cap to increase (and in effect, allow the Canucks to give 10 million AAV at a lower overall C.H. percentage relative to the overall cap).

Weird that Benning is using a similar strategy with EP with the plan of a similar deal once Petey's contract ends.

I can assure you nothing about these latest extensions for EP or Hughes involved a strategy based on something premediated nor geared for the long-term.  We paid term and money we could afford -  and, importantly, what the players/agents would sign off on -  from what we had left over over after we spent tons of money in FA.  We have had to rely on LTIR and league-minimum players to fit these deals in and literally meet the minimum roster requirements of 12 forwards, 6 defenders, and 2 goalies.  That's not a plan, and if it is, it's a poor one.

Needless to say, in three years time, I would be a shocked person to see an 8x10 extension lined up for Pettersson.  I don't think this management has enough foresight to look into what's happening a week from now.

In any event, good deal for Florida.  In the post-Tallon era, they're doing some good things.

Haha classic, Any attempt to crap on our team yet prop up another. Take a look at their contracts bud. Just like us, They have big money coming off the books when important contracts are up. But only FLA gets the good job there?  They have a ton of low dollar guys, Have alot of wasted cap in poor players and buyouts not only right now but gets even worse next year. Yet again... We are doing it wrong?

They have a godly coach, Along with young superstars who are past the growing pains. They already went through the greasy years to get to this point. But again, We don't get that chance? lmao good one

Like I said, in the post-Tallon era, they're doing good things.  They replaced the guy who was actively causing harm to the organization...

Maybe if we go through a post-Benning era, we could say the same things.

Is there any thread that we can go to where you won't whine about Benning?
