Petan earned his spot. As much as I don't believe he will maintain his usefulness to us, it was still earned. I also get the sense he just wants to play.

Kravtsov, on the other hand, seems entitled. He seems like a Jake Virtanen type who has lots of skill, but doesn't appreciate the effort and dedication required to be an NHL regular. We certainly don't need that kind of player on our team again.

Then Petan can play in the AHL where he belongs.  He was useless in camp and he's been useless for his entire career.  Would rather roll the dice on someone who can actually contribute.

9th overall in '18 draft.  Very skilled player.  NY wants +++++return in a trade.

Scouting Report

Soft-mitted goal scorer who can beat you in a variety of ways, Kravtsov had an excellent season as a rookie winger in the KHL. He was one of Chelyabinsk’s top playoff scorers and tallied several timely goals, which is a rarity for pre-draft teenagers in such a competitive league. Kravtsov uses his size and reach to exploit his elite puck skills, and getting close to the cage for quality chances came rather effortlessly for the youngster. He still has some bulking up to do, but he’s strong on his skates and protects the puck extremely well. Kravtsov is a serious threat in open ice thanks to his skating and agility, and he requires only a step or two to reach top speed. His shot and release are lethal; one of the best among 2018 draft prospects, but he keeps opponents guessing thanks to his vision and playmaking ability. The one thing that stood out most was his ability to read plays and correctly determine when it was time to vacate his zone and create odd-man rushes.

The rangers are so scared of Wilson that they wasted two roster spots on two goons instead of Kravtsov.

Again, if you don't agree with your employer's decision based on your career aspirations you go and look for a new job. It's no different with hockey.

determined to play in the nhl, but not determined to earn it.

How do you know that he didn't earn it? Based on rangers fans responses he actually had a decent camp.

There are players that made the team who showed way less. He most likely didn't make the roster because he is waiver exempt.

based on canucks fans responses. juolevi and gadjovich should have been on the team.

coaches and managers aren't in the business of making their teams worse, especially a team like the rangers who just went through a complete regime change because their owner is impatient for results.

Juolevi 100 precent should of been on the team and was treated unfairly.

You want to tell me that reaves and Tinordi are better than him? The only reason they are even on the team is because they are so terrified of Wilson.

juolevi showed nothing, your analysis is hilarious.

building and managing a team isn't a matter of scoring guys out of 100 like EA sports and putting together the 23 guys with the highest scores you can afford. it's managing a group of 23 individual human beings, 23 different personalities and however many hundreds of individual relationships that results in. if having reaves and tinordi in the lineup allows your top players to play with freedom and confidence and swagger that they wouldn't otherwise have with a guy like kravtsov in the lineup, than kravtsov has to bring enough offensively to make up for that difference or beat out a guy in the top 6 for an offensive role.

So is Petan at playing in the NHL.  Too soft for bottom six and not enough skill for top six.  He's another Andrew Ebbett.

yeah, is anybody saying otherwise? he's an injury fill-in, a versatile guy who's shown that he can play with pace and won't hurt you too bad defensively, and has enough offensive touch to move up and down the lineup as needed, though you're not planning to depend on him long term. an ideal 13th forward.

Ebbett also had no business playing in the NHL.  He's not good enough to play any role, even in an emergency.  Guys like that are absolutely useless.
