And there we have it folks... JT Miller has officially become the whipping boy of the 2021-22 season.

Re: OP
Confused Jon Stewart GIF
He's productive (6 points in 5 GP), a key cog on the PP as the quarterback and on the Lotto Line, and can also fill in as 3rd line C.
He might make some mistakes or have rougher games, but does that mean that we'll trade Hughes then?

Also, cap space doesn't necessarily mean that we improve the team since the moves still have to be made, and (while I haven't seen him much) I doubt Trenin has the same upside as Miller.

Why?

To get another top 4 d-man in Myers and fill the void in the toughness department with Trenin while not sacrificing a forward spot on a guy that can't keep up with play.

Hughes is only getting better while I don't believe that we will see the same Miller from two years ago, ever again.

How do you see that in him?  To sound like a broken record, he's still tied for the team lead in scoring, is he not?  He's also both on the Lotto Line (when they keep it) and plays 3rd C.  Still don't get how a guy like that who has plenty of heart can be labelled as "not being able to keep up with play".

Miller is potting points but in a couple of years it's going to be hard to re-sign him and fit everyone in (alongside Boeser, Hoglander and Horvat). I wonder if now's the time to trade him for a top-right handed defenceman as a 1 for 1 swap. He's arguably a top line winger/center on most teams so should be able to get us a top pairing RHD who can play alongside OEL or Hughes. Ideally for that price we'd get a 40 point defenceman who we could play with OEL and drop Myers with Hughes and Poolman with Rathbone.

At this point I just want to get Miller away from this team. His frustration and sulking is bringing his linemates down.

I don't see any teams that have given up on their season already other then Arizona.  Realistically it's too early to make trades but I can see teams like Chicago and Anaheim joining Arizona pretty soon.  Do you see any d-men on their rosters that would be good fits?  I'm seeing a lot of mediocre ones without team control past this season.

I'm neither for or against trading Miller.  I do believe it will be a tight cap crunch in the next few years.  Miller is off to a good start (points wise).  His stock is at a high point and would garner a 1st + prospects + whatever.   However, it's still early in the season, so I don't think many teams are wanting to trade this early.

If we don't turn this season around, our best bet would be to wait for a contender to suffer an injury to one of their top 6 forwards and then try to swing a deal with them.  Teams like Wild, Vegas and Rangers look like they could either use a center or a top 6 forward especially if they lose one late this year.

Otherwise if we do turn the season around, Miller will start playing well and we don't need to deal him. So yeah, I'm also neither for or against trading Miller, however if the season goes off the rails I would firmly shift towards moving him.
