How did we descend into the bottom basement so fast, after all the changes this off season?

Better than hiring a guy with 0 NHL coaching experience though. This team needs a coach who can build an identity, build roles for lines and players, and build a style that suits his players.

What makes a coach a dinosaur to you?

If you were born in the 1950's and were cast as an extra in "Slapshot", you might be a dinosaur

If you put garland on that line it's not wasting anything, imo.  You matchup against the top offensive line, who are usually the weakest defensively.........by putting Garland with Bo, you matchup by spending a good chunk of time in the other teams end.

Pearson has one or two good shifts per game where he looks like a good fit there. The rest of the game he just looks like he is a step behind and just wastes puck possession by taking low percentage shots as soon as he gets the puck. Horvat and Garland could be far more dominant offensively with an upgrade. And playing against the top offensive players on another team doesn’t help much when you allow them to control the play unchallenged like the Canucks do.

I think most of the coaches available are a "grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" situation.  I don't really see a better option out there.  Shaw would be the only option.

Torts is never, ever coming back to Van

A monkey is a better option than keeping Green and Baumgartner.  Toilet training optional.

Green was resigned just 5 months ago and he and his staff received both senior management and ownership full support recently.  We don't even have room on the roster for a 'league minimum' contract without trading someone and anyone who JB could 'easily' trade for wouldn't likely be the type of player who would/could turn this boat around quickly.

Given the situation - I think the solution, whatever it is, is going to have to come from within the organization.  I believe Green has the personnel, the question is then one of deployment/team systems - those are things that can be modified/coached quite easily in my view.

It's been a rough start - but any true Canucks fan has, if nothing else, patience, no?

Considering his name is Green, why then does his “grass” look like this?

Again, I'm frustrated with Greens deployment and allocation of ice time, but I'm not sure there's a better option at the moment.

Shaw is a complete unknown and everyone is well past their prime or batsh!t crazy.  As I said, if Petey, Boes and Miller get it going, it'll be fine.........that's, literally, what is killing this team

Shaw isn’t a complete unknown. He has a ton of experience coaching at the NHL level. He is more experienced than Green who had exactly 0 when gifted the head coaching job that he has shown he can’t handle.

As an interim coach, Shaw would be fine. He is already - by all accounts - highly respected as a teacher. He has a real track record getting the most out of young players especially dmen.

Whats killing this team is stale coaching.

We are only -3 goal differential, we are just on the losing side of close games.

Have you watched the games? The team is lucky it’s not even worse results wise. Thanks Demko.

The irony of this being by far the most heated sounding comment in this thread..

9 games in and one point out of a wild card and people are jumping off the cliff like the allies are invading Saipan

So if Petey, Miller and Boes start showing up.for games and they start winning, is Green off the hook?

They definitely need to play better, but they're still in almost every game and that's with complete no shows from three guys they rely on to provide goals.

Last I checked Demko was a part of the team.  Should we put an asterisk beside every team that's relied on good goaltending?

I'll take an unknown over someone whose system doesn't work and who can't even be trusted to set the lineup properly.

Not if he doesn’t actually change the systems and start deploying players properly.

Its not a winning or losing issue. It’s a how the team plays the game under these coaches issue.

If the players are talented enough to win games once they get going while playing a static, passive, $&!#ty system, imagine what they could conceivably do with good coaching?

The system.does work, it just needs to be executed properly.  It's no different than the system most teams play, they're just not playing with any jump or urgency.

On the plus side, they were much better against the Oilers, hopefully they can buuld on that.

The team RELIES on out of this world goaltending not even to win games but just to not get blown out in games. That’s not sustainable.
