Popular Post Odd.
I was probably more excited watching games when we were bottom feeding for a number of years than I am now with a team that's supposed to be good 'on paper'. When in reality, it's actually not so good on paper.. I watch this team, it's like seeing your cheating ex on social media. My blood boils, I get angry quickly, and become so annoyed that my mental health for the rest of the night gets bad. When I woke up and saw Gadjovich and MacEwen go on waivers, especially the former, I was extremely angry at this organization. Physical, gritty, mean players who play with edge and bring urgency, waived just like that in place for souless guys on the ice like Dowling, Highmore, and Chiasson. Like what? This management claims its doing one thing, but completely does the opposite. The fact of the matter is, our team lacks identity. Boeser, Pettersson, Horvat, Pearson, I'm sorry, but these guys play with absolutely no urgency. They don't play like they are hungry and want to score and win. They would rather laugh after whistles and have some chitchats with the opposing players while literally being ignored for looking like a bunch of scrubs. Fire Green. Sure. However, I'm not so sure it's just a coaching issue. I have a feeling the issue is beyond just management, but the core itself. This is the NHL, you can't just rely on skill and speed. You need heart, grit, physicality, urgency, tenacity, ruggedness, poise, determination, and last but not least, soul. J.T Miller, Garland, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Hughes. I applaud you guys. Day in, day out, these guys are our best players. 3 of them are our top scorers respectively, and the other two are undoubtedly some of the hardest working hockey players I've ever witnessed. And Podkolzin is literally just 13 games into his career. This team isn't going to do jack $&!# in the playoffs, even if we somehow manage to sneak by. First round exit, 2nd round sweep easily. 1 step forward, 3 steps back. If we have a performance like that again, I won't be watching a single game for the rest of the season. Because i'll know then we surely aren't making the playoffs. We all have bad games, blowout games, etc etc. Last nights game was something else. This core isn't built to win. Popular Post Quantum
I wouldn't call Bo Horvat lazy/entitled/soulless. He's right up there with JT Miller/Garland/etc. His sin is that he loves playing with Tanner Pearson too much. 6 1 3 3

Popular Post 48MPHSlapShot
Petey always looks depressed these days. I'm starting to get the impression that he just can't handle adversity very well. Boeser is almost seems like too nice a guy. Great dude with a big heart, but I never get the impression that he gets all that emotional or riled up during games, and you kinda need that if you want to win in this league. I think we overrate Horvat here. His offense always seems to come in spurts. He'll go completely quiet for 3 or 4 games, then he'll net 2 goals and an assist in the 5th game. And his defensive play has never been has never been anything to write home about. He just happens to be the best option we have. He's never going to win a Selke or even be nominated for one. And as far as being a captain in concerned, well, look at where the team is right now and tell me he's doing a good job. Replace the coach and see how that goes, but If the team continues to skid with a new coach it might be time to consider that we may have bet on the wrong horses to build this team around. EddieVedder
Horvat isnt lazy. Fans should never have tried convincing themselves that Boeser and Hughes are core pieces. Hughes takes a lot of lazy minor penalties because he lacks urgency in defending and doesn't put enough effort in backchecking and overall he is one dimensional and cannot defend his position. I think a good coach could turn this around but imo Hughes still has a lot of growing to do to be a dependable NHL player. thrago
If we change the coach and things stay the same I think it's fair to say that our core is actually a supporting cast and we need a real core. That being said I think we need to change coach's first as Green is the only coach most of these guys have had in their professional careers and my guess is he just isn't very good at it. I can't even tell what Green's system is really the best I can figure is dump and chase? But we have the wrong personnel for that system. When we do well it's because the team carries the puck into the other teams zone. Dump and chase isn't even coaching for crying out loud, it's the most basic strategy there is. "ok guys so what I want you to do is send the puck into the opposing teams end then try to win it back from them and score a goal? That might work if you have a team of 6'2 220lb forwards but, I didn't look this up but I'm betting we are in the bottom 5 teams for size? I'm not one of those guys that thinks you need the biggest team to win game although it doesn't hurt but I do think you need to play a system that plays to your strengths. 1 1

He’s been awesome this year - tilts the ice in our favour. He’s also the only one on the PP who regularly moves his feet - can’t do it all himself. 7 8 1

He needs to work on his defense and if I were his coach I would have him watching old tape of Scott Niedermeyer. Nieds could play offense and worried his butt off to get back in position. Hughes glides back into the d zone after playing offense and getting out of position which is unacceptable. 2

He’s almost a point per game with a pair of goals and a post or two in there… Whatever his deficiencies in his own zone, he’s more than making up for it in the other end of the ice and that’s what I’m seeing too. 2 5 1

I applaud because he’s literally the only player who tries to do anything offensively for us as a defenseman. I can overlook some of his defensive deficiencies, Hughes has won us some games this season. There’s absolutely no denying that. 26 minutes ago, EddieVedder said: I know. He also plays with no urgency in most games I’ve seen him this season. Last night, he was probably one of our most laziest.
