No, probably technically would have traded someone or signed and traded Boeser, or perhaps not signed an overflow of wingers. I don't know to be honest I appreciate Boeser is a good asset but maybe not sign Mikeyhev, or trade Garland. I don't know how they think they can keep everyone. It's like a plane flying overweight just clipping the trees every now and then.

However, maybe it's not a bad plan considering. We have lots of backup for a Miller trade. I like gambling on Boeser as an asset. I like Garland and Mikeyhev, and new guy Kuzmenko, and Podkolzin but yet they have no cap space right now. Plus raises incoming for the top 9 in the next couple of years. So there is that.

Exactamundo.

there is significant chance of a JTM trade at any time so mgmt’s best bet was to add depth up front.

everyone and their dog are looking for RHD right now. MTL just placed Dadonov, Armia and Hoffman on the block as potential bait (good luck, except for maybe Dadonov) in trying to acquire a low level RHD. Again, everyone is seeking that out, which means price gets driven right up.

we don’t have cap space or the assets to facilitate much, so best bet is to strengthen where you can and patiently wait out the best option with JTM (either trade or extension). If he extends, we then still have solid depth to determine who to trade out while also enabling a stronger campaign during the season.

great person, no question.  His shot was elite, but appears that injuries have taken a toll on it..........in a re-draft I'd probably tke him right where he was, or a little later simply because his skating is average at best.

It's no secret I think he should have been dealt and though he might not have got your top 4 d or top 10 pick, he would have brought in some assets they could have packaged to get that top 4 d and the much needed cap space.  It was a poor decision, by management, to keep Boeser at that price, imo.

The season before last he was 29th in points and 19th in goals amongst all NHL forwards. Not bad for a guy who has had a toll taken.

Still got to be a better purchase than the Virtanen jersey I have in my closet.

Oh, man, that’s a brutal buy.

I held out. I wanted to get a Virtanen jersey too, thinking he’d break out. But I figured I’d wait until he broke out offensively before I made a purchase. He never did. Saved me a few hundred dollars.

Avs looking to replace Kadri again...

Miller for Compher + Girard + 1st

Compher can play C and is alright at faceoffs, slot in as 3C, Girard can play RD. Avs have 3M in cap space and free up loads so can easily re-sign Miller and Byram next off-season.

We would obviously have to do some cap jiggling, I wonder if they'd take Dickinson back in this deal to help otherwise we'll have to do a cap dump or waive some guys but with Poolman on LTIR and Dickinson flipped or waive, we might be able to squeeze it.

I admit to having a bad track record in players I have hitched my wagon to as a fan. Matt Cooke, Todd Bertuzzi, Zack Kassian all have been stated or defended as my favourite player at one time haha aside from Virtanen.

Not too much new info here.  Drance and Dhali still worried about contract talks being called off by Millers camp once the regular season starts.  Less optimism around Bo according to them.  That's rough.  We can't hit TDL without either of them signed.

agreed completely

This persistent "what if he scores 30+ goals" line of thinking irks me a bit as he's now a 20+ goal scorer and if his skating doesn't improve, that's likely where he sits.  That said, I'd happily eat crow as he's obviously not going anywhere and I certainly have nothing against him other than his contract and cap hit for what he brings to the table.

I have no proof, but I think he started last year with some kind of lower body strain. I expect a really good year from him this time out.

One or the other plus Newhook. Compher (Miller $ retained) or Girard + Newhook + 1st.

I think you answered your question. Kuzmenko is a no-brainer, every team makes room for that ELC. Mikheyev brings a dimension we really needed. Boeser, to me, is a good gamble.

I think they are trying to find a trade combo that works, whether its Garland, Myers or Miller, something is going to have to shake loose somewhere but not until next season. There's no immediate cap pressure.

I think Newhook might be asking too much, or we drop the 1st to a 3rd rounder, because he's got plenty of potential.

Regardless I'd do it, fixes a lot of our issues and meanwhile, Colorado fix theirs - they get a top all around center to fit with their young core. They proved they can win without Girard last season.

I’m wondering what we have seen in the last bunch of months that is making people think we could get anything close to Girard + Newhook + 1st.

Well any team that we would get value from would have to be interested in re-signing him. In that case his value would be much higher.

The Avs were interested in re-signing and 32 year old Kadri, maybe they think Miller fits their team better?

Im not sure we get that much value for him but things have changed quite a bit since the start of the offseason. Lots of the big names are off the market now. If Colorado wants to upgrade their top 6 their options are pretty limited.

Girard is almost a luxury to them as crazy as that sounds. Byram has shown he can more than handle a top 4 role. And Newhook seems like he will continue to get buried there. Maybe they get value for him (like with Jost) before it’s too late. As for the 1st that would be standard in any deal. I doubt they’re too worried about a 30-32 pick at this point.

Girard makes no sense for us.

I'd only do it if we had a 2nd deal lined up to move Girard for something else.

On Capfriendly it shows that Girard can play left and right side D.  So maybe that’s a consideration??

Newhook and byram are the 2 prized pieces in any Miller trade involving Colorado so if we can swindle one of them, that’s a WIN!

to col: Miller, hoglander

to van: girard, newhook, 1st pick 2023

mikheyev-petey-boeser

kuzy-horvat-garland

pearson-newhook-podkolzin

Joshua-Dickinson-lazar

OEL-girard

hughes-schenn

dermott-Myers

sure Girard isn’t the perfect fit but a top 4 puck moving defenseman nonetheless

That's a little better, but still stylistically not great. I'm trying to think of some teams...

Wonder if NJ would be interested in an LD, maybe we could get Severson back (if an extension was included).
