Lots of millers out there, maybe even in their system already.  Are you ready to pay a 30 year old $9m for 5-6 years, probably with a nmc?

I'm curious what leads you to believe he's stay in van?

There are not lot's of Millers out there.  He is a PPG all situations player.  Most teams in the league don't have a guy like that.

I think Miller will be 5yr 8mill, 6x7ish.  I'd pay that.  We'd need to move Boeser or Horvat to do so, which I'd be fine with.

Yes, JR said he will try to get younger, but that doesn't mean you deal your best forward.

what?  You think you're going to get Miller for that.  All his comparables are $8.5m, minimum.  If you value him so highly, why wouldn't other teams?  He might take a discount at $8m, but it certainly isn't going to be in Van.  He could take $7m in Fla and still go home with more money in his pocket than $9m in Van.

People are dreaming if they think Miller is staying in Van for anything under $9m, imo.  Personally, I don't think there's even a number that would keep him in Vancouver.  He's as good as gone, imo.

What comparable are you using for 8.5??  Nearly every forward in and around his production is in the 6-7.5 range.

And they said the same thing about a non lottery protected pick to the Avs.  Eichel and his neck injury.  Kessel and his contract.  Hall for Larsson

These trades happen ALL the time, and if you look at things, the Avs have less need of Byram with his concussion issues with Barron in the wings and Toews producing at a PPG clip

Ok dude.  Sure.
When it happen, you’ll sure show me!

I posted this about 20 pages back

"again, you're assuming that Miller wants to stay and that Vancouver can afford him

posted in the pgt thread

comparables would be guys who recently signed deals

Barkov - 10m

Point - 9.5m

Aho - 8.4

Kopitar - 10m

Couture - 8m

Duchesne - 8m

Stamkos - 8.5

Zabinijad - 8.5

I think those are all good comparables and I'd say most of those guys don't play in all situations the way Miller does. "

On the flip side, do not assume he wants out. Also. Miller is worth keeping even at around 8. Far more so than Boeser at 7-7.5.

I don't see anyway that Miller is staying in Van for 8.  I don't think he's staying at any price, but if he did, they'd have to far outbid teams in states with low taxes.

I think it's moot anyway as I have no doubt he wants out of Canada and back to his home country.  I don't feel like he thinks he's had a good experience in Vancouver

I wouldn't pay Boeser $5m at this point, but I think that ship has sailed.  Given the comparables, I don't think Miller signs anywhere under $8.5, this is his career contract, maybe even his retirement contract.  He's going to squeeze every dollar he can get out of whichever team will give it to him.

I’ll call you on this.

I work in a team environment for a very large organization. I would say there are probably 100 different teams that work in different areas.

I find that most of us choose to prioritize this when choosing where to work in this order:

1) a good supervisor (This case would be a good coach - check)

2) a good team (he seems to enjoy his team mates and actively tries to mentor them the best he can)

3) the work area (we have the prettiest city in the country with the mildest weather and close to the border for easy US travel). Some of the fans and media are stupid but I think most are good and I’m sure he gets that.

the only three real considerations he's going to have

1.  How much money can they give me

2.  How much money can they give me

3.  Am I going to win a Stanley Cup in the the next couple of seasons.

I assume you don't work with professional athletes with a very short window to make as much money as they possibly can.  I've no judgement on Miller or any player who tries to cash in.........this is the biggest contract of his career, he needs to get max value for his services, especially after playing far beyond his current pay grade for so long.

I know I certainly don't get the vibe that he's enjoyed his time in Vancouver or Canada

I think new management is hoping to have that centrepiece player to advance from this point in time.
Miller has effectively got us to this point..

now he needs real support.

Minus Miller,.  It’s only Horvat Petey Boeser Hughes..  rinse / repeat for 3 years…

didn’t we just do that previous to Miller?

Call it 5 years then.

.. anything replacing Miller is fill in the blank, player last name..   “this pick will look great in 3-4 years”.

Miller has proved to be a Center piece player over anything we have that’s not named Demko.

Tanev and marky was kept because of bubble play offs...

Demko only broke through during the play offs... before that a lot of CDC'ers wanted to keep Marky and trade Demko... Glad that didn't happen. The cost of this was to let go of Marky for free afterwards... Demko would have been snapped up by Seattle.

Lets just look forward and hope it all ends well for us...

Yeah I'm glad that didn't happen either, although Marky looked like a lock Vezina candidate early on this season and is still playing very well. Demko is our guy and we are lucky for that.

Why would we have to outbid when we can engage in a contract extension in the summer?

And also, how are you so sure he wants out of Vancouver? He has not mentioned a single word about not liking the city, his teammates or the organization.

Elliotte is on Tim and Sid right now and said 2 things that caught my attention.

1) Miller has the most interest and there’s going to be some pretty big and interesting packages as the all star game draws near.

2) There’s little to 0 interest for almost all of pending/restricted free agents to sign in Canada or waive to be traded anywhere here at all.

I read that JT loves Vancouver and has never discussed wanting out.

He has been praised for his off ice contributions. Leadership in the room etc..

He also has two daughters. Raising them in BC would be desirable. It's the best place on earth.

I'm not sure Miller is in the 8+ million club. When you look at players making that currently they are more productive than him. Not a knock on Miller I love the player, he's going to get paid but not with the likes of Draisaitl, Crosby, Aho, Stamkos among others...even the players who make less than $8 (Svechnikov, O'Reilly, Connor, Landeskog, Barzal) it's tough to imagine Miller making more than these guys even though the market price is rising.  He's not in at that tier you would think, although his value to a team will be somewhat subjective and will really depend on what that team deems his value to be. For me, he's in the $6.5-7 a year range.
